About this activity
Start your 3 hour tour by meeting your guide at your hotel,if it’s located in the center of the city.Together you will visit the most important buildings in the heart of Florence. You will start with visiting the Duomo (Cathedral)the most imortant Florentine church. This church started to be built in 1296 and only got finished in 1436.The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris. The Gothic interior is vast and gives an empty impression. The relative bareness of the church corresponds with the austerity of religious life, as preached by Girolamo Savonarola.

Then your guide will take you to see the Baptistery also known as the Baptistery of Saint John. The Baptistery is one of the oldest buildings in the city, constructed between 1059 and 1128 in the Florentine Romanesque style. The Baptistry is renowned for its three sets of artistically important bronze doors with relief sculptures. The south doors were created by Andrea Pisano and the north and east doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti.[1] The east doors were dubbed by Michelangelo the Gates of Paradise.

The Italian poet Dante and many other notable Renaissance figures, including members of the Medici family, were baptized in this baptistry. After you will get to visit the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo which is a museum containing many of the original works of art created for the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral (Duomo) of Florence. Finally your tour will end after a visit of the exterior of the Giotto’s Bell Tower standing adjacent to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore.

The tour and the guide were excellent, but the ad confirmation led us to believe we were going to be picked up and transported to the Duomo. Not the case.
