The ultimate Foodie Tour of Val d'Orcia: Brunello in Montalcino, Pecorino in Pienza and Vino Nobile in Montepulciano
This fascinating food and wine tour will cover the captivating UNESCO World Heritage Site of Val D’Orcia, nestled in the heart of beautiful Tuscany.
We will visit the picturesque towns of Montalcino, Pienza
and Montepulciano for two different wine tastings and then sample the tasty Pecorino of Pienza. Starting in Montalcino, this is the district where the grapes for Brunello wine are grown, harvested and matured. Enjoy the atmosphere in the rustic wine cellar while enjoying your wine. Traversing to the top of town you will be astounded at the breathtaking view across olive groves, oak and cypress trees, winding country lanes and cultivated vineyards. The city, with its ancient churches, Renaissance palaces and charming squares is the ideal vantage point to look out over Val d’Orcia and the valleys of Val di Chiana.
Pienza is another hilltop town with magnificent views over the Orcia valley. Here you will taste the local Pecorino cheese and take time to wander through the streets of this pretty town. The hub of Pienza is Piazza Pio II. This is where the most important monuments are, with the cathedral towering over them.
Finally… Montepulciano. You will visit an ancient dungeon to taste the mature Vino Nobile wines in this special setting where the wine is stored beneath the winery. The vampire movie, “New Moon” was filmed here. Every August the barrel-racing Braviodelle Botti completion is held here in the heart of the city, Piazza Grande. Take lots of photos to capture these special memories.
