Tuscany Wine Tour

1 day
About this activity
Join a fun day trip to the Chianti region and discovery all the area has to offer, from iconic Tuscan landscapes to the all-important wine! The day includes a trip through Tuscany with visits to two wineries, where you will sample seven different types of wine, three extra virgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars and Tuscan snacks, as well as the chance to enjoy amazing scenery and visit to San Gimignano.

The first stop will be at a winery and wine tasting school located 1-hour outside of Florence, where you will taste four different type of wines including the famous Chianti Classico, Brunello of Montalcino, Super Tuscan wines. A passionate wine producer will teach you how to recognize different flavours, and how to develop your taste buds. Don't worry- this is not a real school where you have to take notes! Only fun is guaranteed. To accompany the wine, you will also be sampling a 30-year-old balsamic vinegar, the aphrodisiac truffle oil and a classic extra virgin olive oil.

Your second stop will be at a local winery located in the D.O.C.G Vernaccia white wine region, overlooking the stunning towers of San Gimignano. Here, you will be guided through the wine production process from vineyard to cellar by the wine makers, who will then share the secrets of the best wine and food combinations. At the winery you will enjoy three wines; the famous Vernaccia white wine, a rosè wine and a Chianti colli senesi D.O.C.G.

After the second winery, free time is given to explore the beautiful narrow streets of San Gimignano on your own. One of the best-preserved medieval towns in Tuscany, San Gimignano is host to a great array of shops selling local handicrafts and produce. It's the perfect spot to check out the tower filled skyline while eating the ice cream from a world-champion gelateria. Maps will be provided from your tour leader and tips about the best places to visit in town.

Departure from San Gimignano is at 3:45pm. You will arrive back to Florence at approx 5:00pm

Pros: 1. The wine we got to sample was good 2. Tour guide was fun and energetic 3. Getting to experience San Gimignano wasn’t fun and provided a feel of what a medieval village is like 4. The tour was mostly millennials so it was easy to talk and connect with other couples during the tour 5. The winery guides at both locations were fun and provided a good experience. First stop was funny and put on a good show and the second location went into details about how their wine is processed. Cons: 1. Supposed to meet at 9:40 and leave at 10 am sharp. We left the waiting station at 10:15 and had another 5-10 minute walk to the bus. So started off 30 minutes behind schedule 2. I could be wrong, but thought the tour was limited to around 20-25 people. Our group easily had more than 50 which was far too large and I think was the ultimate reason why this tour was average. 3. Thought we’d get to sample more wine on the tour than we did since it was mentioned several times we’d get drunk and drink a lot of wines. We got to sample 7 glasses of wine between the 2 wineries. We did get to sample some olive and truffle oils at the first winery which were really good but thought we’d get more wine out of this for $80/person. All in all, it was a mixed trip. My wife and I aren’t really into group tours but saw how many good reviews this got and thought it’d be fun. While we did enjoy the wines, oils, and San Gimingnano, I wouldn’t do this trip again unless the group air was at least cut in half.

This was a wonderful day. Only comment is that I wish we had longer in San Ginmagnagio. I traveled with my daughter. The age group was perfect. Lots of young folks and a few older ones (with young hearts). Seeing the countryside was lovely. Having time to take pictures was a bonus. Our tour guide was great!! She made the trip very enjoyable!!

This tasting experience was well organized and a memorable experience during my recent trip to Florence. The tasting experience at the first wine farn was exceptional. Also, our guide Lorenzo added just the right amount of historical information about Florence, Tuscany and the famous Chianti region. More importantly he was a fun "conductor" for the coach bus ride between the different stops along tour route.

This tour is great! We have learned how to taste the flavors of wine and the wine-making process. Then we tasted several different types of wine, extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegar. Also we have visited the beautiful small town San Gimignano. The view was gorgeous. Highly recommend this tour.
