Cosimo I de’Medici, first Gran Duque of Tuscany, commissioned the construction between 1560 and 1580. The building was initially meant to serve as offices for judges, merchants, and magistrates of Florence. The gallery as we know it today officially opened its door two hundred years later in 1769.

There is no such thing as a skip the line ticket in Florence because a whole lot of other people will have also bought skip the line tickets. So you either stand in the regular line or the skip-the-line line. I think skip the line might move faster, though. The Gallery is great and a do not miss experience.

Saved us lots of time we would have otherwise spent in line. We had to stop by the ticket office a few blocks away and then a rep from the tour company walked us over to where we needed to be.

Was a good way to skip the line . Was not really a tour at all. Just no line for tickets or admission. Was a time saver
