Stop At: Canal Grande, 30100 Venice Italy

A high-speed train will take you from Florence to Venice in comfort. On arrival, a private water taxi cruise will help you get the lay of the land from the city’s famed canals. Sturdier than gondolas, sleeker than waterbuses, a water taxi is the premium way to experience Venice.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Casa di Marco Polo, Calle Scaleta, 30121 Venice Italy

Your expert guide will meet your water taxi at the Rialto to start a walking tour of the Venice you don’t see from the water. As you weave your way through back streets and cobbled piazzas, where modern and classical architectural styles fuse, you’ll hear colorful tales of Venice’s past. The tour takes in the explorer Marco Polo’s house and the Bridge of Sighs – which convicted criminals crossed on their way to begin their sentences – and culminates with St. Mark’s Basilica.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Campo Santissimi Giovanni e Paolo, Campo Giovanni e Paolo Santissimi, 30122 Venice Italy

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Basilica di San Marco, San Marco 328, 30124 Venice Italy

With express access, you can discover the dazzling gold-inlaid dome of St. Mark’s without waiting in line – and have time to climb to the basilica’s terraces. Not covered on most tours, they offer panoramic views of St. Mark’s Square and the city beyond.

That still leaves you around three hours to explore Venice at your leisure. Your guide can recommend places for lunch; cicchetti, similar to tapas, is a local specialty well worth seeking out. It’s your choice whether to return to the train station by land or waterbus; then it’s back to Florence by high-speed rail once again, brimming with new memories.
