About this activity
Florianpolis is known in Brazil as the Island of Magic. Its breath taking beaches are a paradise to surfers and beach goers a like. It is thought by many as the best place to unwind and get in touch with your inner self. It holds a lot of history as well as some of the most beautiful beaches in the country In addition to over 40 gorgeous beaches, Floripa (the citys nickname) has a ton of other attractions. On our tour, you will see the historical center, where the little yellow and charming metropolitan cathedral is located. In the most important square of the city, well get acquainted with Praa Novembro XV (15th of November Square, named after the date in which the republic was proclaimed) where stands the imposing Palace Cruz e Souza, which now houses the historical museum of Santa Catarina. The Palace is important in many ways, having staged many important moments in Brazilian history throughout different points in time. Having hosted both Brazilian emperors during their visits to the city. Having been stormed by revolutionaries during the federalist revolution in 1891 and in a protest against military dictatorship in 1979, this palace has seen its share of history. One other historical and visually striking location is the Ponte Hercilio Luz, named after the Governor of Santa Catarina who conceived the bridge as the first connection between the island and the continent, which unfortunately he never saw finished, as he passed away before the bridge was completed. The bridge is now closed for traffic and it is a national cultural heritage. But obviously, on a city like Floripa, the beaches and lagoons are still a must see, especially the Lagoa da Conceio. The neighborhood houses not only a lagoon, but also a few constructions dating back to when the city was colonized and settled. Nowadays the lagoon is used by locals and visitors alike for watersports, picnics, and for swimming. Its warm and calm waters are ideal for families to relax and keep an eye on the children. We also drop by the trendy Jurer beach in the north of the island. When you see it youll understand why the beach was already elected by the New York Times as the place to be. During the summer, youll likely to spot the young, the rich and the famous cruising around Jurer.
