About this activity
Departing by open-top bus, your Frankfurt city tour will take you to the Romer town hall. Constructed in the 15th century, the Romer is Frankfurt's most important historic building, taking its name from Roman settlements that existed there long before Frankfurt itself was founded.

At the Romer, you'll depart your tour bus to enjoy a leisurely walk around the historic heart of the city. Be sure to bring your camera to capture sights of architecturally stunning buildings such as St Paul's Church and Frankfurt Cathedral (Gotischer Kirchturm). The tour will then continue to Old Sachsenhausen, a pedestrianized district of Frankfurt famed for its lively cafés, bars and restaurants.

Back onboard your open-top bus, you'll travel in comfort to Frankfurt's modern European banking center, where you'll see the tall skyscrapers that characterize the city's imposing skyline. En route to the banking quarter, you'll pass Goethe House, the former home of Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, an 18th-century literary genius and German poet.

Other top Frankfurt attractions that you'll see before your two-hour guided tour ends include the old Hauptwache Plaza, with its beautiful Baroque buildings, and the famous Zeil shopping center.

This tour was okay. Our tour guide was nice and knowledgeable, but he wanted to hurry through everything so that I could not stop and get any souvenirs. I recommend just doing the hop on and off bus pass instead. We only had half a day to tour Frankfurt, and too much time was spent on the financial district rather than the historical parts. I really wanted something from City Hall which is there really pretty part of the original town.

The tour provided a good overview on the historical background of the city. Our guide, Peter, knew the city well and the walking tour was great. Thank you.

A big problem was getting to the tour's starting point. On the other Viator tours transportation was more or less provided, here I had to pay 40 euro for the taxi from airport to the tour office, where the tour started. There is a train that goes from airport directly there and the ticket is 5 euro, but you have to know about it - this was disappointing. The tour itself was fine - they show you around the city on the bus with no roof, it's a pretty good view from there and you can make better pictures than through the bus window. Then we walked around the center, saw the old city and new buildings recreating the old architecture. It's a pretty short tour, but that's what you pay for.

I didn't have much time, so this 2 hour tour was perfect for me. I got a quick overview of Frankfurt city. The tour included riding on the double decker hop on-hop off bus and also some walking through the city center shopping and market areas. It was great to have a little of both! My guide really knew a lot of the history of Frankfurt city. I highly recommend this tour!
