About this activity
The number of castles in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley is unique in the world, and they are the reason why this stretch of river was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. On board the ship you can relax and watch as all these fascinating buildings pass you by. Enjoy the view from the ship of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and Stolzenfels Castle in Koblenz, the legendary castles Cat and Mouse, the medieval Marksburg Castle, Schönburg Castle or Stahleck Castle in Bacharach. You'll also see the legendary Loreley Rock, which isn't a castle, but nevertheless a fascinating sight.

To start your river excursion, check the timetable and head to any embarkation point. Your ticket allows you to board a scheduled boat at any of the river route stops where you can design your own perfectly paced Rhine River itinerary. Along the cruise, enjoy comfortable seating in a climate-controlled boat, sip on a coffee or tea from the on-board cafe (at your own expense) and catch impressive views of key riverside sites. Hop on and off wherever you’d like to explore – just don’t miss the last return boat to your starting point! Note: Ticket is not valid on special theme cruises nor cruises including gastronomic service.

The cruise was nice to see several castles but the advertising it as a hop on and hop off cruise is extremely miss leading. If you hop off your off for the rest of the way up the river and you have to wait till that ship goes the rest of the way up and than you can get back on that ship going back to Mainz. So if you get off you do not get to see anything up the river from that point on.

We took the cruise from Koblenz to Bingen. The day we went was cloudy, but the views were still great almost as good as a Viking River Cruise commercial. The staff was pleasant and food service was good. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and would do it again if we find ourselves in the region. Travel Note: we had a Viator voucher which needed to be exchanged for a ticket. Although the voucher states an electronic version can be presented, the ticket agent really wanted a paper print-out. By accepting the electronic version, she was required to complete a form before she could give us the tickets.

The Rhine River tour was Great. Awesome, Awesome. Only One Problem. 4 Boats and You Have No Clue Which One. Very Poor Instructions. I would rate the boat ride a 5. As far as the rest. I, was most Stressed. They get a Zero. We almost missed the boat.

The Viator voucher Rhine River 20 Castles.. was not what we expected. When we presented our voucher at Cologne, the ticket office clerk told us that to see the heritage section of the river, we would need to take a 2 hour train journey to Koblenz, presumably the nearest starting point for the 20 castles section of the river. Time did not allow this, so we took a day trip on the river. The Rhine that we saw was reasonably interesting, but not what we thought we had bought. We had only two seriously disappointing days on our 28 day Europe holiday, and this was one of them.

It was difficult trying to figure out the time schedule, and missed the morning departure. We took a train to the turn around location and got on board and got to see the awesome views on the Rhine River!

My family and I went on this cruise last July. It was awesome - we really enjoyed it. The only question we had was that it was posted on the Frankfurt page. The cruise isn't anywhere near Frankfurt. Luckily, we had a rental car and, so, were able to make the one hour plus drive to the boats.
