About this activity
Your adventure begins from pickup. Sit back as your dive guide thrills you with the stories of the upcoming cave dive adventure. Mermaids Lair is an inland blue hole located in an old abandon settlement known as Old Freetown. To keep kids from playing near the hole, local parents would tell of a Mermaid that pulls little children into the water and into its cave, which gives us the name of this cave today. After a short off road dive through a mix of different ecosystems we find a small parking area behind a vegetated sand dune. On one side of the sand dune we find a beautiful remote beach and on the other side of it we find a trail that leads us to our diving destination. Following the trail we find a small pound of water in a small ecosystem known as Black-land Coppice. The water appears to be dirty due to leaf litter and dust, the depth in this pound is about 4 or less. Once pass this very deceptive surface with scuba gear, you pass through a hole in this shallow water and enter a large room about 40 feet in depth. Here at this depth the water is crystal clear unlike its surface and unlike the surface water area we find a large cathedral with evidence of a once dry cave system. Exploring this caveleads into a depth greater than 80 feet and into a room that appears more like a labyrinth. This dive is done by following permanent lines leading through a maze that is a forest of calcified water droplets influenced by the Pleistocene ice age. Structures like stalactite, stalagmite, soda straws, flow rocks, Dogtooth Spars and other speleothems are quickly identified which would make your jaw drop, but hold on to your reg because you also have very interesting passage ways that is also exciting. After this amazing experience, your guide will then drive you to the next stop of the day. The next stop is for lunch and relaxation before the return drive to your place of lodging. Enjoy lunch on a beautiful beach call Fortune Bay Beach from a wonderful restaurant known as Banana Bay. Lunch of your choice will be served to you on the outside wooden deck of this beachside restaurant surrounded by Coconut palm trees facing a turquoise sea.
