About this activity
Your Freeport PADI discover scuba diving course begins at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach hotel, where you’ll meet your dive instructor, a certified PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) professional. The program is broken into three parts: a pool session, a theory session and an ocean session.
The course will begin with the pool session where you will head to the pool with your scuba gear for 30-45 minutes. Under the watchful eye of your instructor, practice basic diving skills and get familiar with the tank, BCD, regulator, mask and other diving equipment. Learn how to control your buoyancy and breath underwater! After the pool session, you'll have time for a break before you head out for your ocean dive.
During the theory session you'll learn basic dive knowledge including how to prepare and use equipment, safety guidelines and other introductory principles. Learn all of this during a 30-minute session with your instructor, during which you’ll watch a video.
Finally, hop aboard a dive boat and try out your new skills during an open-water dive up to 40 feet (12 meters). As you discover the amazing experience of swimming with colorful tropical fish around the coral reef, you’ll be a converted diving lover!
At the end of your dive, cruise back to the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach hotel. You'll receive a recognition certificate that’s valid for 12 months so you can continue through the PADI certification levels, if you wish.

- Diving within 48 hours of flying is not recommended

- Dive is subject to weather conditions
- It is recommended that you bring/wear your swimsuit, sunscreen, a hat, towel and water; you may also bring a packed lunch or snacks
