The area around Hakata Station which is the biggest and busiest railway station in Kyushu is a center of business in Fukuoka City and serves as an art showroom.

Stop At: Jotenji Temple, 1-29-9 Hakataekimae, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0011 Fukuoka Prefecture

Jotenji Temple is a Rinzai Sect temple (Zen Buddhism), which was founded in 1242 by a Chinese merchant. You will see a very beautiful Japanese dry landscape garden called “Sentoutei” which is best enjoyed in silence. And there are several attractions such as a monument of the origin of Yamakasa festival, udon (wheat noodles) and so on in this temple.

Stop At: Tochoji Temple, 2-4 Gokushomachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0037 Fukuoka Prefecture

You visit the largest wooden Buddha in Japan, the beautiful five-storied pagoda and so on in Tochoji temple. When the spring has come, you can enjoy the big cherry tree in full bloom.

Stop At: Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, 6-10 Reisemmachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0039 Fukuoka Prefecture

You enter an old traditional house and observe or experience weaving Japanese textiles “Hakata Ori” using the traditional method.

Stop At: Kushida Shrine, 1-41 Kamikawabatamachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0026 Fukuoka Prefecture

Kushida Shrine founded in 757 is very popular guardian shrine in Fukuoka that is dedicated to the three Gods. Your guide will explain the difference between Shinto and Buddhism, Japanese customs and so on.

Pass By: Kami Kawabata Shopping Street, 6 Kami Kawabatamachi, Hakata, Fukuoka 812-0026 Fukuoka Prefecture

Kawabata Shopping Street is an active shopping arcade lined with various shops on both sides. Interesting goods, souvenirs and Japanese foods can be found on this street.

Stop At: Hakata Traditional Craft Center, 6-1 Kamikawabatamachi Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0026 Fukuoka Prefecture

You can see local traditional craft such as beautiful Japanese style of doll “Hakata Doll”, Japanese textiles “Hakata Ori”, and other handicrafts.
And you can prepare and drink “Matcha (Japanese green powdered tea)”. You will learn about basic drinking methods in a tea ceremony by experience how to prepare Matcha. (Except Wednesdays)
