Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Yanagawa, Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu

Yanagawa "Kawakudari" (going downstream) is a punt tour of the waterways in Yanagawa ramified across the city like a mesh including the old castle's moat.

The wide and narrow waterways' network spans a total length of about 470km forming a unique landscape of the water district called "Suigo". This atmospheric beauty inspired a great poet Kitahara Hakushu born and raised in Yanagawa, and the landscape has been adored by many later literati and artists following Hakushu.

This precious historic heritage was formed in the course of people living and prospering together with water. Preventing inland flood by temporarily storing rain water during stormy seasons and supplying water for agricultural use or in case of fire fighting, the waterways are deeply connected to people's daily life in Yanagawa to this day.

Our punt tours start from Shogetsu Punting Station and end at Ohana (or Okinohata area) , about 4km in distance, passing through the old castle's water gate and calmly winding downstream for fulfilling 60 minutes.

Enjoy the relaxing ride and beautiful surroundings of our punt tours in Yanagawa!

Stop At: Kumamoto Castle, 1-1 Hommaru, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto 860-0002 Kumamoto Prefecture

Kumamoto Castle is one of the three greatest castles in Japan. This magnificent fortress was constructed in 1601 by the first ruling domain lord of the region, Kato Kiyomasa, a renowned castle builder and strategist. Taking 7 years to complete, the castle is nothing like any other. Following the ruling by the Kato clan, it was then occupied by the Hosokawa clan during the Edo period.
This symbolic landmark of Kumamoto City features "musha-gaeshi" stone walls to combat intruders and newly-reconstructed extravagant Honmaru Goten Palace. The castle premises is a great cherry blossom viewing spot, drawing tons of spectators during the blooming season. The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake has left many of the on-site structures severely damaged including the stone walls, the tenshukaku main tower, and others designated as Important Cultural Properties.Restoration of the tenshukaku tower is planned for the year 2019, as for the entire premises is projected to be re-established in the next 20 years. Entering the Honmaru Palace is currently prohibited; however, the Ninomaru Palace courtyard and Kato Shrine within the premises should provide a stunning view of it. Our wish for all visitors is that this would provide an unique opportunity to witness the rebuilding process of Kumamoto Castle.

Stop At: Suizenji Jojuen Garden, 8-1 Suizenjikoen, Kumamoto 860-0956 Kumamoto Prefecture

Suizenji Jojuen Park is a traditional Japanese garden landscaped around a natural spring pond. The area was originally the site of Suizenji temple, constructed in 1632 by Lord Hosokawa Tadatoshi of Kumamoto. Sometime later, his grandson, Lord Tsunatoshi, built the garden around the temple into its current form. The placement of the pond, trees, and hills were supposedly meant to represent parts of the 53 Stations of the Tokaido, a famous route that ran from Edo to Kyoto, and included in the landscaping is a miniature Mt. Fuji. The Kokin-Denju-no-Ma teahouse located inside the park was brought from Kyoto in 1912 and is now a place were visitors can enjoy traditionally-prepared Japanese tea. Izumi Shrine is located on the north side of the park.
