This allows you the opportunity to see a bit of everything. We start with a Glasgow tour where you will see amongst many other things, Glasgow University, the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities, founded in 1451, the Kelvingrove gallery built in a Spanish Baroque style using red brick sandstone and dating from 1901.We stop for a visit to Glasgow Cathedral, the only medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland to have survived the Protestant Reformation of 1560 virtually intact.Over the road you step back in time and discover Glasgow’s unique history with a visit to the oldest house in the city Provand's Lordship, built in 1471, and one of only four medieval buildings to survive in Glasgow. Then it's down to the Georgian city centre, George Square and free time for lunch or just a walk around. At one point Glasgow was the second most important city of the British Empire, and still remains the “Industrial Capital” of Scotland today. Leaving the city behind us, we then head northwest towards your visit to the Auchentoshan distillery. The distillery is also known as "Glasgow's Malt Whisky" due to its close proximity to Glasgow and "the breakfast whisky" due to its sweet and delicate nature. After your visit it's back on your vehicle as we head down to the banks of Loch Lomond and the village of Luss,
A settlement has stood on this site since medieval times although much of the current village dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, having been developed to house workers from nearby slate quarries.With its prim, identical sandstone and slate cottages garlanded in rambling roses, and its narrow sandy, pebbly strand, the village became a popular holiday destination during Victorian times. The 19th century parish church offers a haven of peace and has a lovely ceiling made from Scots pine rafters and some beautiful Victorian stained-glass windows. A number of early medieval and medieval monuments survive in the present churchyard, including simple cross-slabs which may date to as early as the 7th century AD, and a hogback grave-cover of the 11th century. After your visit we leave Luss behind us and it's along the banks of the river Clyde and back to your ship at Greenock
