Nääs Castle has probably the most complete 19th century interior in Scandinavia - it has not been altered at all.
One can trace the owners of a castle here all the way back to the 16th century. The oldest parts of the present castle is from the 17th century.
Nothing inside the castle has been changed since the day in 1898 when Mr August Abrahamson passed away. He was the last private owner of the castle.
He was born in 1817 in the south of Sweden, by Geman-jewish parents. He became a very wealthy tradesman in Gothenburg.
In 1868 he bought Nääs estate together with his wife Euphrosyne Lehman. She was an internationally well known opera singer when she met August.
Many well known persons have visited and stayed at Nääs Castle, for instance the famous author Selma Lagerlöf spent 22 summers on the Nääs estate, with her friend author Sophie Elkan.
Next to the castle there is a park with nice paths, an unusually big swing, a café and restaurant in a former horsestable. After only a few minutes walk you can reach the other interesting parts of the culturereserve.
