• Discover new feelings from inside the coffee world, from the bean to the drink.
• Get to know the corners of this 50 years country state.
• Know the only coffee plantation school in Europe.
Get to know the world of coffee from the bean’s treatment to the transformation into the drink. You will get introduced into the process of how it is grown, dried, hulled until it is transformed into the so called ‘black gold’. You will perceive the details of this laborious job, that has been performed with much care and passion, as it deserves.
During approximately 90 minutes you will know the importance of quality coffee, and of course, towards the end of the visit you will be able to taste the coffee that is harvested in the farm.
This incredible experience will open a new world of sensations. Finca Los Castaños is in Valle de Agaete (Gran Canaria), the only place where coffee has been traditionally grown in Europe since several plants of the Typica Arabica variety arrived at the beginning of the 19th century. During the 50 years of existence of the farm, its owner has arranged it based on the predominant crops in the valley, where coffee trees grow harmoniously around mangoes, papayas, avocados, oranges, grapefruits and other types of tropical fruits. Currently, 80% of the farm is dedicated to the cultivation of coffee, mainly Arabica Typica, although they have a recently cultivated area of the Geisha variety, the most precious kind worldwide, making them pioneers in Europe in their cultivation.
Examples of other varieties are also available, such as Caturra, Yellow Catuai, and even Robusta, this will allow you to perceive the physical difference as well as feel it. Thanks to the work of the manager Antonio Márquez, first Q Grader of the Canary Islands and AST Trainer by the Specialty Coffee Association Association of Europe (SCAE), the farm has grown in national and international recognition since this coffee was chosen in 2015 by the national barista champion Luis Blanco and his toaster Marisa Baqué to represent Spain in the World Barista Championship 2015.
You can visit this magnificent country state from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 13:30.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
