Granada Tapas Walking Tour

About this activity
Meet your friendly local guide at Alhambra Viajes Agency, and then set off on your 2.5-hour walking tour around the city’s Albaicin neighbourhood to discover its best tapas bars. Spain’s passion for small-plate tapas meals is believed to have originated in the 13th century when King Alfonso decreed it law that bars must serve food with drinks. The bar owners grew elaborate with their offerings over the years, prompting the tantalizing tapas scene that is seen in Granada today.

The exact itinerary will be decided on the day of your tour by your guide; however you will definitely visit at least three of Granada’s best tapas bars to feast on small plates of specialties like classic paella and Spanish omelet (may vary depending on availability). Alongside the food, savor wine, draught beer or soft drinks (one glass in each bar) and enjoy tapas just as the Spanish do!

On your way from bar to bar, your guide will point out some of Granada’s top historical sights, too. Learn of Granada when it ruled by the Moors (Spain’s bygone Muslims) on a stroll past Plaza Nueva and the Royal Chancery of Granada; see where the city’s present-day Muslims hang out at Calderería Vieja, a bustling street lined with tea houses; and hear of local Muslim prayer traditions on a visit to the Church of San José (outside only) .

Marvel at the Mudejar-style architecture of Santa Ana Church, and admire views of the UNESCO-listed Alhambra palace complex and mountains of Sierra Nevada from Mirador San Nicolás. Look out for the cármenes (grand houses) and Arabic cisterns that typify the streets of Albaicin, and learn all about the changes to the neighborhood since the days of the Moors.

After 2.5 hours exploring the area and its beloved tapas bars, walk back to the start point where your tour finishes.

I was under the impression that this tour would be more about the Tapas and we'd go from one spot to another just down the street or around the corner. Instead we walked through the entire city, which was great for two of us. My 80 and 70 year old grandparent and parents had a difficult time with all the walking though, so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with mobility concerns. Otherwise, the guide was super and we enjoyed the tapas and city tour.

I went to the address provided and the venue was shut. I have sent several messages and as yet no one has answered. Jacqui

We had a great time on this relaxed tapas walking tour! Our guide, Victor was knowledgeable, charming and took us to great little local places through routes we definitely wouldn't have found on our own. The finale was the beautifully atmospheric Alhambra lit up in the late evening. This was a lovely family memory and one of the highlights of our holiday.

One of the best tours we did in our trip to Spain was the Granada Tapas tour offered by Viator. Was skeptical to book at first given that other tapas tours were reviewed more highly, but this one was awesome. Emilio was our guide for the evening and he took us around the city and up into the Albaicin for amazing views, especially of the Alhambra. We stopped at 4 different Tapas places which were all different and fun. I would say that this is about 2/3 walking and 1/3 tapas, so if you are looking for just the food and drink, it may not be for you. But it was perfect for our first night in Granada!

Victor was an excellent guide. His knowledge of the history of the area was fascinating and the tapas and wines were great. I would highly recommend this tour and Victor!
