Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.

Our guide, Gustavo, was excellent.incredibly well informed and made the tour feel special even though he does it day in day out. He highlighted parts of the buildings and the gardens that I am sure would not be noticed without such an expert guide. I can not recommend this tour and the guide any more highly than saying this is a must if you go to Granada.
Not worth the money. Would not recommend. You could do better or just as good with free app tours by Rick Steves for example or just using a written guide. Viator had me scheduled for 9am but when I arrived I was told my tour was at 10am so I had to wait an hour and a half. Tour was mediocre. Viator was a disappointment. I had several questions they basically told me to call the local tour company who only had a voice mail response. They never called back. Unacceptable and fly by night if you ask me. Would not recommend Viator who leaves you on your own, they get your sale and basically do not care after that.
Private tour with outstanding guide - friendly, extremely knowledgeable, fascinating cultural insights.
My family and I arrived about 20 minutes before the scheduled time of 9am for the private tour of Alhambra and Generalife by Granavision, and the guide, Alberto was there and the tour started immediately. Very good first impression. He spoke in excellent English. And was very enthusiastic about sharing the history and the numerous architectural styles of the Alhambra complex. During the tour through the gardens, Generalife, his well-versed knowledge of the various plants clearly showed through. The services provided by Alberto was excellent!
We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour of the Alhambra. Our tour guide, Beatriz A. I. was fluent in English and was very knowledgeable about the history and the myths of the beautiful Alhambra. With a private tour, Bea was able to engage directly with us and our teenagers, which kept their attention far better than any group activity we had tried. It was pricy but worth it. Well done.
It was a horrible experience. I was trying for a Friday morning tour of Alhambra, and when declined, Viator offered an alternative with no warning that the date was changed to Thursday. As a result, when my wife, daughter and I arrived for the tour, not only had we already been charged for missing
