PADI Open Water Diver course
The PADI Open Water Diver course leads to full entry-level diver certification. Upon completion of this course you are certified to dive around the world to a depth of 60 ft. Open Water Diver certification is a pre-requisite for advanced courses such as the Advanced Open Water Diver, Night Diver and Underwater Photographer. At Octopus Diving, we endeavor to teach all classes with personal attention and help each student learn at their own speed.
Prerequisites
For this course you will need to be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills. You also need to be 10 years old or more. For all courses you will need to complete a PADI Medical Statement and may be asked to consult a physician to receive a medical clearance prior to diving. If you have any medical issues or concerns, please contact us in advance.
Course Description
The PADI Open Water Course is split up into 3 parts: Theory, Confined Water Sessions and 4 Open Water Dives.
The Theory portion of the course can be done in two ways.
Option 1:
Let’s be honest, who wants to spend their vacation time with their nose in a book? Not me! So, to minimize this PADI developed the PADI eLearning option. This means that you can do all the theory BEFORE arriving in St Martin | Sint Maarten. To do this, we will give you all the information when you contact us to book your course. When going online, you will need to enter our shop number so we can access your student records: Octopus Diving, PADI #799210.
Option 2:
Purchase the PADI Open Water Manual here with us, read it at home and answer the questions at the end of each chapter. Then you will bring those completed knowledge reviews to us, go over it with one of our great instructors, fill in some quizzes and a final exam, and you are on your way.
Once the theory is complete we start the confined portion of the course and the open water portion of the course.
Regardless of the learning options you choose, upon successful completion of the course, you will be a certified PADI Open Water Diver. This means you can join us on any of our scheduled dives or enroll in Advanced levels of training.
