About this activity
You will visit the school's facilities, meet the students and learn more about children in Guatemala, our programs and what education is like in Guatemala. Local workshops: After learning all about the NGO and the schools, you will walk through San Lorenzo el Cubo to Don Ronny and Doña Rosa's house. Her three children attend the children's schools in Guatemala. A common occupation for the women In San Lorenzo the cube is to make dolls of concern. The Dollies Quitapenas are traditional Mayan dolls that the Guatemalans put under the pillow when they sleep to get rid of their worries. A meaningful and beautiful souvenir to take home! On this trip, our guide and Doña Rosa will tell you more about the legend and history of the dolls of concern as they show you how to make your own, using local materials. Carpentry is another important industry in San Lorenzo el Cubo, besides being the profession of Don Ronny. The furniture shop is a family run business where Ronny and his colleagues produce chairs, tables, beds and other home furnishings. You'll see real Guatemalan craftsmanship here. After these fun and educational visits, you will return to Antigua by chicken bus, with your own handmade Quitapena doll!
