2-Day Trip to Shaoxing Ancient Town and Yellow Wine Cellar from Hangzhou

Day1:
Depart Hangzhou bound for Shaoxing. Roughly two hours later we arrive at our guesthouse lodging, enjoying a delicious Shaoxing-style meal before heading back out to hit up the wise old streets of Shaoxing and explore a historical/cultural icon – the residence of 4th century calligraphy master Wang Xizhi (王羲之).
In the afternoon, the nation’s most famed Yellow Wine Brewery museum awaits us. Here in the vast underground aging cellar (more than a-hundred years-old and rolling full of potted wine), We will appreciate the process of yellow wine brewing.
Last up, we participate in the ‘Hundred-man bottle-painting’ activity, being part of the tradition that is the characteristic painted Shaoxing Wine bottle.
For dinner we take to the streets and snack! Partake of local street foods, eat your fill, then head back to a cozy B&B guesthouse to wait out the night.
Day2:
Following breakfast, morning of day two will bring us to the absolute highlight of Shaoxing – the home of Lu Xun. Lose yourself touring the Baicao ‘One Hundred Plant’ Garden to Sanwei ‘Three-flavor’ Study. Stroll the historic Lu Xun Road. The curious local fennel bean snack, known as “Hui’xiang” beans, is delicately fragrant and chewy, and well worth a try.
Then we will make tracks for the draw points of the fresh air and relaxing atmosphere of the Keyan scenic areas – Mount Keyan, Jianhu Lake and Lu Town. We’ll sweep through all three! Pay respects to Buddha on the mountain, take to the water on the black-awned boats, and see small classic dramas acted by small troupes roadside.
When evening begins to fall, that’s our cue to return home to Hangzhou.
