About this activity
Day 1: Sapa – Tam Duong - Lai Chau (-,L,D)

You will commence your Northwest exploring trip by a run on the winding road leading to the highest point on roads in Vietnam, named Heaven Gate, where you take a stop and enjoy the views from the pass. You then continue the drive downhill on the road set between deep valley and mountain cliffs of Hoang Lien Range. At Binh Lu T-Junction, you will take a left turn onto the other nice road along a valley. Hereafter, you will get off the main road by taking another turn to a rather bumpy dirt road leading to Bo village, inhabited by the Black Thai and Lu minority groups. After enjoying a cup of green tea with the friendly villagers in their stilt house, you will continue the ride on the bumpy village road to the main road leading to Binh Lu centre. Upon arrival at Binh Lu town, you will visit a small market before having lunch in a local restaurant. The run in the afternoon takes you on another back road, where inhabited by Lu, Pa Pen, Giay minority groups. In the middle afternoon, you will arrive in Lai Chau, the newly built mountain town, where you stay tonight.

Day 2: Lai Chau – Sin Ho – Muong Lay (-,L,D)

Today’s run is also on spectacular roads through the mountains. After a short drive on the main road, you make a left turn to a small zigzag road, which runs precipitously up to Sin Ho. Sin Ho is home to many different minorities people such as the Nung, White Thai, Black Dao, and Dao Tien, who will gather in the town’s market every Sunday for purchasing and socializing. In the afternoon, you continue the run on the zigzag road, downhill this time, until meeting the main road again at the bank of Nam Na River. The road from here weaves its way through the picturesque Na river valley, passing many small villages of the Red and White H’mong, the Kho Mu and the White Thai ethnic minorities. The sound of the river running below follows you all along the ride until you reach Muong Lay in the mid afternoon. Then you will have the opportunity of having a walk around in the small town, a soft walk in the mountains or just taking a shower and relax over a cup of coffee or a beer.

Day 3: Muong Lay – Dien Bien Phu (-,L,-)

The drive today is mostly along the river which runs in the picturesque mountainous area. Again today you will pass more ethnic villages of the White Thai, the Red and White H’mong and the Kho Mu minorities. Dien Bien Phu is famous for the big battle in 1954 against the French. The town is one of the most remote parts of Viet Nam, only 34 kilometers from Lao's border. Depending on your schedule, you will take the flight to Hanoi today; or have a tour to some of the history sites of the town, before ending the trip at your hotel.
