Night 1: Night train to Lao Cai

Our train often leaves at 20.30 - 21.50.

Day 1: Lao Cai – Sapa (B)

Note: You can transfer to Sapa via Highway Express. Depart from Hanoi at 7.00AM today and 5.30 Pm arrive at Lao Cai Railway Station. Get transferred to Sapa town (1hr). Spend today at your leisure.

Day 2: Sapa – Heavens Gate – Mt Fansipan 2800m (B/L/D)

Transfer 30min to the Silver Waterfall then drive to Heaven Gate, the highest road in Vietnam to see Mt. Fansipan, the roof of Indochina. Start trekking 2.5 hrs to the stop at 2200m. After lunch, trek 3.5 hrs to Mt Fansipan's campsite at 2800m ASL.

Day 3: 2800m – Mt. Fansipan 3143m – 2200m (B/L/D)

Take the last trek to Fansipan mountain peak at 3143m, where we can celebrate your victory. After 2.5 hrs hiking up, your award is breathtaking Sapa view. Relax 30min then hiking back downhill to 2200 ASL.

Day 4: 2200m – Y Linh Ho Village (B/L/D)

Continue trekking downhill then stop for lunch. After 8 hours trekking we will arrive Y Linh Ho Village of Black Hmong minority in the late afternoon. Here we spend the night at a campsite nearby Muong Hoa River.

Day 5: Y Linh Ho Village – Seo Mi Ty Village (B/L/D)

Trek uphill until lunchtime in a part of Hoang Lien National Park. The trekking route is easier in the afternoon. We pass by Seo Mi Ty village of Black Hmong minority before arrive at a campsite located nearby the village for dinner.

Day 6: Seo Mi Ty – Den Thang Village – Ta Trung Ho Village (B/L/D)

Today trek on small trails sneaking through the rainforest to Den Thang Village of Black H’mong for lunch. After lunch, continue to Ta Trung Ho village of Red Dzao minority where we spend the night in local house and explore their life style. (7hrs trek)

Day 7: Ta Trung Ho – Nam Toong – My Son – Thanh Phu (B/L/D)

Start the trek today to Nam Toong Village of Red Dzao minority. After lunch, walk descend to the valley where locates My Son village of Xa Pho minority. Take a short walk to Thanh Phu village of Tay minority. (7hrs trek)

Day 8: Thanh Phu – Sin Chai (B/L/D)

Today’s trek is short and soft. Follow the trekking route in the bottom of the valley. After lunch at a nice spot, continue to Sin Chai village of Red Dzao minority. (3.5hrs trek)

Day 9: Sin Chai - Nam Ket – Ben Den – Lao Cai (B/L)

Trek to Lao Cai, the most remote part of Sapa where Red Dzao ethnic minority inhabits. Stop at Nam Ket for lunch then trek downhill to Ta Thang village of Tay minority. Here transfer by car to Lao Cai Railway Station.

Day 10: Back to Hanoi

  • Trekking grade: Even though the trekking in this tour is about 7-8 hours maximum, with the ascend and descend taking their turns continuously in quite long duration, we decide to upgrade it to Strenuous Grade. This is our highest grade of physical requirement. Activities are of a strenuous nature requiring a high level of fitness and a high degree of competency. We give this grade to the journeys that combine a high level of challenges or need special notices of physical, mental health. This kind of tour will provide a real sustained workout even for fit and experienced adventurers. A high level of fitness with previous experiences is essential. In special cases, we may request your most recent medical report.
  • Suggested preparation: 1 - 1.5 hour of aerobic type exercise daily for 06-08 weeks before your adventure. Hill walking with a pack in variable weather conditions is also strongly recommended.

  • All meals, which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. On the trek the support crew will cook meals for us. Since we are far away from the town, the emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious local produce. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirement.
  • Train travel

  • On our tour, we use first class trains of King Express or Oriental Train or similar. These trains all offer Superior and Deluxe cabins with clean, comfortable, air – conditioned sleeper. All trains are designed with 4 soft berths in each cabin and individual reading light. Warm blanket and tender pillow are provided.Toilet is often located at the front of each carriage. The train transfer often takes place in 8 - 8,5 hours overnight, the carriage is slightly shaking while traveling. You often arrive in Lao Cai city at early morning then take car transfer for 1 hour (35 km) to Sapa town.
  • In Hanoi, one ATA staff will accompany you to the train to show you your cabin and tell you how to deal with night train traveling in Vietnam. Your car is private.
  • In Lao Cai, our guide will meet you at Lao Cai Railway Station in the morning of the first day. He also sees you off at Lao Cai Railway Station on day 9. Your car is private, air-conditioning.When you get back to Hanoi on day 10 you can easily find a taxi at the train station.

  • The Highway Express connecting Hanoi - Lao cai launched in Sep 2014 and shorten the traveling time to 5.5 hours. This includes 4.5 hours, Hanoi - Lao cai city, 240km on good road conditions allowing speed from 70 - 100km/h, 01 stop for toilet and resting and 1 hour, Lao cai city - Sapa town, 35 km mountainous, twisting road. You often start from Hanoi at 7.30AM and arrive in Sapa at 1PM then lunch time.
  • Hotel and Homestay
  • Hotel in Sapa: 3-star Sapa Sunny Mountain hotel, Sapa Centre hotel or similar. Your room well meet 3 stars standard with ensuite bathroom.Our homestay is a real local house by ethnic minorities in remote villages of Sapa. The houses are all very basic conditions with the hosts and his/her family living in and carrying their daily lives of farming and raising cattle. The bedding area is shared for several sleepers. You will be provided a private mattress, mosquito net, pillow, warm blanket. We suggest you should carry your own light sleeping bag for more comfort.The toilet is often western style (water flushing) and there is hot water running from shower. The toilet and bathroom are not ensuite, and often few steps away from the main house.
  • The resting site/ camping ground
  • On this trip, we will overnight at 2800m in a lodge. The lodge is bricked walls, steel proof with very basic conditions. There are 2 lodges divided into small rooms. Each room is for 12 persons maximum. You may have to share the room with other climbers. Your bedding area is a wooden panel, we will prepare heat insulation, yoga-style mats and winter sleeping bags. There are some toilets, not en-suite in room. No electricity and no hot water running yet.In case the lodge overbooked, we will camp. Our camp for the evening will be in a very small clearing on the mountain enclosed by bamboo. You will be provided with twin shared tent, sleeping bag and yoga-style mats.

  • He has been carefully trained in this field and is fully licensed in tour guiding by the government. In addition, he has been trained in first-aid by SOS International and he knows how to deal with difficult situations. You will have a great time traveling with him.
  • Our porters
  • Our porters are local ethnic people who are absolutely familiar with the Mt. Fansipan trek as well as other trekking tours in Sapa. The porters carry the food, cooking items, sleeping accessories, water etc for your whole group. Each porter often carry the pack up to 40-50 kg. You will carry your luggage by yourself and so we highly suggest you should try to keep your bags under 5kg as an ideal weight.
  • The trekking day
  • A typical trekking day starts at about 8.00 am after breakfast. Lunch times can vary depending on the terrain. We aim to reach the next overnight stop by 4.30 pm. In the day trekking to the peak, we suppose to start earlier to catch up the sunrise, often around 05.30 - 06.00am. During the trek we will have short breaks for rest, snack and photographing.
