Day 1: Hanoi – Halong Bay (L, D)

After pickup at hotels in Hanoi's Old Quarter, your Halong Bay tour begins with the 4-hour trip to Tuan Chau Marina, where you'll take a tender transfer to your cruise. Enjoy a welcome drink on board followed by a cruise briefing, and then sit down to lunch, featuring seafood and Vietnamese cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit a beach for swimming in the emerald water; you can also climb up to the top of the island to take in a view of the bay, if you wish. Explore the bay on a 1-hour kayak or bamboo boat tour, and then return to the cruise boat to relax and enjoy local fruit and snacks on the deck.

Dinner is served (Vietnamese and barbeque seafood dishes), followed by board games and squid fishing.

Overnight: Your cabin on board

Day 2: Sung Sot Cave – Halong Bay – Hanoi (B, L)

Wake up early and have breakfast served Western-style. Then head to Surprise Cave (Sung Sot Cave), which you'll explore on a guided tour.

Return to the boat for a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on board before lunch is served. At midday, return to Tuan Chau Pier where you'll disembark for the trip back to Hanoi, arriving in the late afternoon to end your tour.

Jimmy is amazing, I woke up at 3am to stare into the dark abyss and it was awesome! I loved the boat sounds and the views.

It was OK. To start, communication was bad between us, tour company, and guide. We were clear where they should pick us up yet they couldn't find us. Our guide was hard to understand, impatient, and frustrating. The scdhudule was very rushed and places over touristy.

Good cabin though I wished that they had shower curtains as the whole bathroom became messy after a shower. Good food but bad waiter as we could not tell him what we wanted due to the fact that he did not know English. Good scenery but debris floating in the bay spoils it all. There is therefore much to be improved on but nevertheless a good place to visit.

This was a lovely trip - mostly because of the scenery and the beauty of Halong Bay and the staff on the boat were very friendly and kind. The times we spent on the boat - enjoying the scenery, getting to know fellow travelers, etc were wonderful. The off the boat tours weren't great. The Cave and the swimming beach were so crowded with other tourists from other boats, it made the experience of those aspects not enjoyable. The cave was beautiful and quite spectacular, but way too many people being herded through at once. One the boat, the staff were wonderful, the food was decent. I do think one should not have to pay for water - or have free water at meals...this was a negative aspect. The room was really nice, but smelled like a toilet....so that was not great. I don't know if that is just part of being on the ship, or if that is avoidable and there is something wrong with the plumbing. All in all, a lovely trip despite crowds and smelly rooms.

Me and my partner went on this trip at the beginning of February. Apart from the weather still being a bit chilly we can't fault it. The boat was clean and spacious, the staff were attentive and the activities were exactly what we imagined. The food was exceptional and presented brilliantly, I have never seen cucumber, carrots and spring onions served as a bunch of flowers before. Halong Bay is absolutely beautiful and we would highly recommend this trip.
