About this activity
You will be met at the port of Helsinki by your Cruising Excursions representative who will then guide you to your air conditioned transportation ready to commence your tour.
This half-day tour will take you to the most picturesque places in Helsinki, Finland's beautiful capital, including:
Helsinki Cathedral: This 62-metre-high cathedral was originally built from 1830-1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia.
Esplanade Park: A big green area between two streets which is very active in summer, when many Finns come to have a picnic and listen to live music performances.
The Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium): the largest stadium in the country hosted the 1952 Summer Olympics but nowadays is mainly used for hosting sports events and big concerts.
Senate Square: Surrounded by landmarks - Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki, and Sederholm House - this is situated in the oldest part of the city.
The Sibelius Monument: This is a tribute to the great Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, it is composed of 600 hollow steel pipes welded together in a wave-like pattern, set in a beautiful park area of Helsinki.
Temppeliaukio Church: When possible, the tour will visit this extraordinary Lutheran church, which opened in 1969. Built directly into solid rock, it is also known as the Church of the Rock and Rock Church (if you wish to enter there is a small charge which is payable locally)
This tour is highly recommended, there is not a lot of walking unless you wish to enter the Cathedral, this is mainly a panoramic tour but will give you a great insight to this wonderful Finnish City, a tour not to be missed!
At the end of your tour you can choose to either stay in the centre of Helsinki to explore the area by yourself, or return back to the cruise port.
Please note: If you wish to stay in Helsinki after the tour, you will need to make your own way back to your cruise ship.
