About this activity
This 3-hour shared sauna experience including return transportation from your Helsinki accommodation gives you an opportunity to truly live like a local, in an ultimate comfort of a traditional Finnish sauna.
Your shared excursion starts with either an afternoon or evening pick-up from your city centre hotel and you will be taken to a selected sauna (there are several options depending on the season; subject to availability). Once at the venue, your guide will talk you through the sauna tradition in Finland and gives you a briefing of the sauna etiquette and instructions.
Once in, enjoy the purifying heat of the sauna by trying a “löyly”, a Finnish word for steam from the stove that is the spirit of the sauna. Top it off with a “vasta”, a bunch of birch twigs to comfortably whisk on your body to intensify the warmth.

Great way to experience a true Finnish traditional sauna. Our guide took us via car 30 minutes to a traditional sauna located within a Finnish National Park to experience not only an electric sauna but wood fired sauna. Men and women have separate locker rooms and electric sauna, wood fired is co-ed as is the cold plunge into the lake. In our case it was Feb 1 and the lake was frozen except where cleared for plunging and swimming which the Finns enthusiastically enjoyed. We plunged if only for the cold experience. Brrrr- but fun: Very authentic, guides explain the premises and process thoroughly as all postings for the participants is in Finnish. Clothing is optional in the electric saunas and bathing suits are worn for coed experiences. Both Finnish adults and children participate in this cultural experience.
