Itinerary

Day 1: Train from Helsinki to Turku, then start cycling

Pass By: Naantali Old Town, Mannerheiminkatu, Naantali 21100 Finland
We kindly ask you to arrive at our office at 9:00 in the morning, so we can prepare your bikes. When everything is ready, you will cycle to Pasila railway station about 2 km south. Get on the train and enjoy the ride for 1,5 hours to Turku central railway station. Have lunch in Turku. Then cycle towards Naantali, which is a pretty seaside town and the “summer capital” of Finland. Even the president spends his summer here. Cross over a bridge to the first island, Luonnonmaa. Overnight in Rymättylä island.

Day 2: Cycling to Nauvo island and first ferry crossing

Pass By: Nauvo Church, Kirkkovalli 1, 21660 Nauvo, Finland
A bit of cycling in the morning, and then you can board your first ferry at Hanka. Nauvo harbour is a lively place and worth a leisurely walk. Continue west along quiet gravel roads. Visit Tackork berry farm, specialised in hand-made gourmet berry products. Then take a ferry (continuous) to Korppoo island. There are restaurants in town centre and in Verkan harbour. Overnight in Nauvo or Korppoo.

Day 3: Longer ferry ride to outer islands

Pass By: Kokar, Finland
The ferry to Kökar island leaves from Galtby in Korppoo. Once onboard, enjoy the trip and great sea views. Kökar is a beautiful island and it’s such a pleasure to explore it by e-bike. Kökar, as all the islands westward, belongs to the autonomous and de-militarized region of Åland. Official language is Swedish. The island has seen travelers come and go since the bronze age. Buy some famous black bread from the bakery. Also kayak rental is possible. Overnight in Kökar.

Day 4: Island hopping continues

Pass By: Sjökvarteret, 110 Österleden, Mariehamn 22100, Åland Islands
The ferry to Föglö island leaves from Harparnäs port. The island of Föglö is actually many smaller islands connected by bridges. You will ride south to Degerby village, which has a pub, restaurant and grocery store. Harbour is usually full of yachts. 1,5 km to south is a nice beach for swimming. After snacks or lunch you can hop on the ferry to Åland Island, which leaves from Degerby port. It’s a short ride. On the other side it’s farmlands and forests. After 30 kms of cycling on red roads (the tarmac contains local red granite rock), you arrive in Mariehamn. The town is full of life in the summertime. Visit the cafes and yachting harbours. It’s also nice to cycle around the quiet and pretty wooden housing areas. A bit north of Mariehamn is one of Finland’s first craft breweries, Stallhagen. Good restaurant and beer tasting. Overnight in Mariehamn area.

Day 5: Sightseeing in Åland island

Pass By: Kastelholm, Sund, Aland Island Finland
Åland main island has many interesting attractions. Check for example medieval castle Kastelholm. For food and drink you should cycle to Smakby, a great combination of handicraft shops, a quality restaurant and a distillery, which makes a selection of spirits from local apples.

Day 6: Ferry crossing to Brändö, unique string of islands

Pass By: Brändö Fritidsservice Ab, Björnholma, Brändö 22920
Brändö community consists of 1200 islands and a lot of water. The biggest islands are nowadays connected by bridges to form a unique string. Cycling from south to north is quite an experience, it will take your breath away. Brändö main island offers a grocery store and limited other services. Cafe Trixies has lunch and sandwiches. Restaurant Gullvivan, 2,5 km north, is also a great place to eat. Overnight in Brändö.

Day 7: Kustavi island

Pass By: Kustavi Handicraft Village, Iniöntie 411 B, 23360 Kustavi, Finland
Ferry to Kustavi island leaves from the northern tip of the Brändö island road. These islands are bigger and closer to mainland and you can see how the nature is more lush compared to the arid outer islands. Many pictoresque old farms along the road. Also more services here, notably in Kustavi centrum. In Handicrafts Village you can walk around and see craftsmen at work. Overnight in Kustavi area.

Day 8: Green countryside cycling and more islands

Pass By: Teersalo Velkua, Teersalo, 21195 Naantali, Finland
Ferry to Teersalo leaves from Hakkenpää. On the way you can stop in Taivassalo Museum, a renovated mansion from 18th century. It tells the story of the local community, where seafaring and fishing always set the pace of life. While waiting for your ferry, you can enjoy some drinks and food in Sahan Saluuna bar. From Teersalo, depending on accommodation, you will take a continuous ferry to Velkua island, or continue cyclig a bit further towards mainland and Turku. Interesting day!

Day 9: Cycle to Turku and train back to Helsinki

Pass By: Aurajokiranta, Itäinen Rantakatu, 20810 Turku, Finland
This day will take you through bigger islands of Merimasku and Luonnonmaa. Restaurant Rantamakasiini is a great place for lunch. You can ride straight to Turku or enjoy some summer vibes in Naantali. Once in Turku, if you have time, cycle straight to the river Aura, which flows through the city. Excellent eating and drinking here. On a sunny day, the river boats are packed with people having a good time. Take the evening train back to Helsinki (Pasila station) and return the e-bikes at our office. What a tour!
