Zero Waste Day: Upcycling Design Workshop and Rescued Food Gourmet Lunch

Make your way to the eco-friendly handicraft workshop in central Helsinki at 9am (first workshop, lunch at 11) or 1pm (first lunch, workshop at 3pm) to meet your instructor and begin your tour. On arrival, enjoy an introduction to the history and importance of upcycling, and learn of the recycling materials you’ll be using during the workshop. In order to participate you do not need any prior experience. Upcycling-design examples are presented with instructions that you can follow or you can create your own unique item base on your own ideas and creativity. An experienced instructor will assist you throughout the workshop.

Create your own wonderful Helsinki-inspired design souvenir out of recycled materials. Follow the instructions given or create a unique item based on your own ideas. During the workshop, gain insight into the reasons why upcycling is important to the people of Helsinki.

Before or after the workshop, enjoy lunch in the local restaurant called Loop that makes delicious gourmet lunches out of rescued food from local supermarkets. Enjoy some free time to explore the peaceful former hospital area turned into a cultural center at your own pace before or after your guided activities. Stroll through the parks and along the shore and discover handicraft shops, a coffee house and art. It is a great way of relaxing your mind and boosting your creativity at the same time.

This unique fun experience suits perfectly for individual travellers, couples as well as families with children. A percentage of the participation fee is used to organize free workshops for underpriviledged and refugee children with their families.
