My friend and I had a great time at the luau. The dancing was great and the food was wonderful! The drinks were free, but the Mai Tai that I got was pretty flavorless. Also, prepare yourself for sitting out in the direct sun until the sun goes down. We were also eaten alive by mosquitoes, so I advise spraying some bug spray before heading out. Overall, I had a great time, and would heartily recommend this event.
I have attended Luau's previously and this was a big disappointment. As soon as we got through registration, they offered us a flower lei for 10 or a rock necklace for free. In my past experience the lie was for free. When we eventually got to the food, it was poor although you could have as much as you wanted, but who wants more of this! I was hoping the entertainment would make me feel better, but we had only 3 ladies and 3 men dancers. My guess is only 1 of the ladies were actually a native although they were all very pretty. And I don't believe they ever did a traditional hula dance. So the 3 hour celebration ended after 2 hours and 20 minutes, which was long enough.
Great performance.
It was a very short performance and was not value for money.....
This was our first trip to Hawaii, needless to say we spent most our time sight-seeing. The locals were lovely and treated the tourist with courtesy and kindness. Our hotel, Kona Seaside Hotel was beyond wonderful. The staff made us feel right at home and the entire place was immaculate. They were constantly cleaning and making sure everything was good. The hotel clients consisted of people from all over the world and we all agreed on how lovely everything was. There was a 'chillaxing' open-air restaurant, Splasher's, on the hotel grounds that seemed to service mostly everyone in that area. This offered all types of food and the prices were very good. Just across the street were 2 public beaches, unfortunately I can't swim that well so I didn't venture in beyond my knees. What drew me to this island was the active volcano, I don't have the words to describe the wonder and magnificence of the area or the entire island for that matter.
This is my first luau so no basis of comparison. Food was very good, great variety. Entertainment was very good also, narration by Auntie was very interesting. Would I do it again -- I would do another luau but probably try a different one, just for fun! If you go-you'll enjoy this one.
This was an excellent Luau with activities for the whole family to participate in and enjoy. We got to try authentic Hawaiian foods and had lessons on Hawaiian activities. The hostess was fantastic with a warm demeanor! Family friendly entertainment and educational, fun setting! Unfortunately ours was moved inside because of the rain, but they still made it a wonderful experience!
