With vast Macadamia Nut farm surrounding it's structure, this would be the original Macadamia Nut Factory on the Big Island. Others have imitated it, but none come close to the Mauna Loa. Free tasting at the center counter. You have to taste the Complimentary samples. Go in the back they do have a snack corner for you to enjoy Macadamia Nut Ice Cream is the best. If you are like me who love sandwiches as snack, they have it there too.

Home to the most active volcanoes in the world, this is where you will be able learn about the volcanoes at the visitor center.

When the water hits the under ground magma steam rushes out the cracks in the ground. This vent is located at the Volcanoes National Park.

This is where we do have craters, Kilauea Crater would be the most monumental for you to see. Along the sides of the road you will be able to see the black lava covered fields.

Stop At: Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, 11-3051 Volcano Road, Volcano, Island of Hawaii, HI 96785

There are over 200 variety of orchids nurtured at this location. One of the orchids do sell for over $20,000. If you wish to buy one and take home this is the place to get one.

We enjoyed the fact that this was not on one of those giant buses. It was nice to only worry about a few couples getting on and off the bus vs a large crowd. Each stop was 20-30 minutes and they were spaced out to the point where you do not spend hours driving to get to a short 20 minute stop and leave. The variety of the stops between waterfalls, Volcano National Park, and other attractions kept the tour perfectly balanced. My wife and I really enjoyed this trip and I would recommend it to anyone.

Our thanks to John our driver and guide, who made the tour amazing with his knowledge and cultural history. He had a great sense of humor which kept us entertained in between the many stops he made for us and or fellow travelers. If you book this tour make sure you request John.

Mel did a great job of taking us around and sharing his knowledge of the island and sites. We had a slow start however as the pickup was at least 1/2 mile outside where the other vendors pickup and drop off so a few couples were late in getting to the van. Providing a map would have been handy if they don't have access to the vendor area next time. The van had no markings and no hand sign was available to be seen when approaching where it was parked in a remote lot
