Waipio Valley Express

Available from Hilo only, this adventure is the best way to visit Waipio Valley and the famed Hamakua Coast! Lush rainforests and plunging waterfalls highlight this tour, along with a stop at the often overlooked Laupahoepahoe Point. The tsunami in 1946 wrecked havoc here leading to the creation of the warning system in 1949 which would eventually be known as the Pacific Tsunami Warning System. Drive through Onomea Bay to Akaka Falls to visit the 440' waterfall. Continue on to Waipio Valley where guests board a 4x4 open air van for the ride into the Valley for the Kings.
