Itinerary

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City (L)

Pass By: Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City
Meet your friendly guide upon hotel or airport pickup and set out on your private tour of Ho Chi Minh City. Travel in the comfort of an air-conditioned car or minivan to Chinatown to visit the district’s top attractions, including Quan Am Pagoda and Thien Hau Temple, before descending on Binh Tay Market and numerous teahouses in search of specialty goods.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and spend your afternoon with a sightseeing itinerary that hits major landmarks in the southern capital, once called Saigon. Peruse the popular exhibits at the War Remnants Museum (formerly the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes) to learn about the impact of the Vietnam War on local inhabitants.

Afterward, drive to the Reunification Palace (Independence Palace) and discover the history of this former presidential residence up until the Fall of Saigon, which ended the war.

If time permits, make quick photo stops at Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, two architectural gems built by the French on Paris Square in the late 19th century.

Then test your bargaining skills (with help from your guide) at Ben Thanh Market, the city’s lively central market. Marvel at the array of foods, textiles, cosmetics and other goods that are neatly divided among various sections.

Your evening is free for you to spend at your leisure.

Overnight: Choose your own accommodation in Ho Chi Minh City (own expense)

The vast underground network that once connected villages and housed living quarters, hospitals, conference rooms and kitchens is today preserved as a memorial park.

Descend with your guide into a narrow passageway to explore a section of the labyrinth open to tourists, and get a picture of what life was like below ground during wartime.

Before we started our trip, I reached out to Bravo Indochina Tours via Viber and Facebook. At first they responded and when I asked to change our date by one day. There was no response after several attempts. Laura from Viator was helpful in facilitating the change but still no confirmation from the tour company. When we arrived at the airport in HCM although 30 minutes delayed, there was no one who met us at first after we tried to look for someone for 20 minutes. As we were trying to get portable wifi, we finally saw someone with my name. The driver took us to the hotel and we didn't know whether our guide was going to meet us or not. We tried to get the hotel to call the phone number provided but no answer. We called several times. Our guide finally showed up then the city tour started. He was an independent guide who was called last minute to fill in. He was okay but one our last stop at Ben Thahn market, our driver was nowhere to be found. According to the guide, his phone was turned off. The guide also asked us how he was having a hard time contacting the tour company and that he might not get paid. We told him we already paid for the tour via Viator. We waited for 30 minutes then we decided to take a cab to our hotel. On our second day, we had a better guide named Henry. However, when he showed up he said we were going to do a city tour and Cu Chi Tunnels. I said no the itinerary said the Mekong Delta. After he sorted it out with Bravo Indochina, we were on our way. We had the same driver from the day before who did not leave us this time. He said he had issues with the previous guide and that he waited for us. He sort of apologized but we told him he cannot leave us this time and he didn't. Thankfully, we had a nice time at the Mekong and all was well. We were hoping he would be our guide the next day but he wasn't. We were getting a new guide. On our 3rd day, we visited the Cu Chi Tunnels. Our guide showed up but we could tell from the first meeting we did not have good chemistry with him. He was hard to understand. He kept talking to us far from where the tunnels and sights were and we wanted to get closer and have our turn for photos. He was not assertive compared to the other guides with other tour groups. After a while, our group was very annoyed with our guide. At times he was condescending but maybe that was just his natural tone but he was not accommodating unless we insisted on going to the particular area where we wanted to spend more time in. We were not impressed with Bravo Indochina Tours and only 1 out of the 3 guides were good during our 3 day tour. The tour company seemed unprofessional and the number they provided was a mobile that seems to be off the whole time. When we had issues, we would call and the hotel would call on our behalf and we could not reach them. Viator was helpful in getting us a partial refund since 2 people in our group could not make it due to medical reasons.
