About this activity
Start your day with an 8:00 AM pick-up from your centrally located hotel in Ho Chi Minh city and head to the Long An Province in the Mekong Delta Region.
After a 1.5-hour car ride, you’ll arrive at your first destination: a local monument that displays objects from the war period of the Mekong Delta Region. Here, you’ll learn more about the history of Vietnam. Then, visit the Orchid Farm of a local family – see literally hundreds of types of orchids from various countries and learn how the plants grow to adapt to the environment they are in.
At 11:15 AM, start the highlight of your trip: a bike ride along the countryside road lined with aceca palm trees, dragon fruit farms and endless rice fields. You may see children cycling to school and farmers harvesting rice and okra. Cycle along for about an hour before arriving at a local market, where your guide will help you buy fresh fruit from the street vendors if you wish. Enjoy fresh coconut water to refill your tank!
At 12:30 PM, visit Cao Dai Temple – a can’t-miss experience during the prayer session. Then, bike to a local restaurant for lunch, where you’ll enjoy a set menu of Vietnamese cuisine (halal and vegetarian food is available!).
After lunch, take a rest and then come visit a primary school, where you can observe how the children study and then play with them during break time. Depending on time, head off to a local mattress workshop to see mattresses being made of reeds.
At 3:00 PM, you’ll start heading back to Ho Chi Minh city for a 4:30 PM arrival.

We were so glad we booked this trip. Phu and the driver collected us promptly at 8 am and we were taken on a fantastic exploration outside of the city. First stop was a market on the suburbs of the city to buy our choice of fresh fruits to snack on during the day as well as fresh king prawns which were cooked for us later in the day at our beach side lunch. We stopped off to visit a fantastic ruin of a temple and then went on to a local village where we lay in hammocks whilst they made us fresh sugar cane drinks. After that we were taken on a motorcycle scooter ride through the village to see the paddy fields and observe village life. After lunch we visited another temple before taking a ferry taxi on the Mekong River to Unicorn Island where we snacked on more local fruits before a paddle boat ride along the beautiful canals, and the a ride in a horse drawn cart. Phu, our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable and was an absolute delight to spend the day with. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone as it was a great way to get out of the city and observe rural life in Vietnam.
