About this activity
Early leaving Ho Chi Minh City at 7.00, you will reach Cai Be at 9.30 AM. Up on your arrival in Cai Be, you will visit Cao Dai Temple which is symbolizing for the local unique religion and then the Cai Be Cathedral.

After that, you will embark on the boat to visit the inland and floating markets of Cai Be to observe the daily life of local people as well as to know how the two markets different from each other.

You will buy fresh tropical fruits right at locals’ own boats and have chance to talk to them for exploring more their own culture value along with their daily life.

Leaving the market, you will continue with a hand-rowing boat tour to discover the exciting Mekong river life. The small boat will travel through the tiny canals and lead you to the mysterious spots of Mekong Delta.

Back to the main tourist boat and transfer to a local host in Tan Phong Island. Take a short rest, have a drink and taste the local fresh fruits.

After Lunch, we will cycle around Tan Phong Island to visit Tan Phong Island. If it is on schooldays, you will also have a chance to make friends with local cute and gentle pupils in a village school. Stop at a local farmer’s house to savour a cup of tea and local specialties of banana candies. You can try plucking the fruits at the host’s garden and talk to him to understand how local farmers take care for their gardens.

Saying goodbye to the hospitable host, we keep on biking to the bang conical hat (nón bàng) workshop if they open. You will cycle back to Mekong Rustic Restaurant for lunch with local food and break before embarking on boat to leave Tan Phong Island for the pier to come back Ho Chi Minh City at 17:30. End of tour.

Note: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where produce of the Mekong Delta like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam. This can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present on the markets.

Our guide Thuy was ready and waiting for us at 6.50 am in our hotel we were led to our air conditioned car and our journey began Thuy pointed out many points of interest on our journey and even told jokes I found out later her English was self taught she is a credit to the company she works for. The actual trip started with a boat trip up n down river visiting a floating market and coconut candy factory where we sampled the sweets they make then it was back up river where we transferred to a paddle boat to take us through the swamps after we spent 30 minutes in the tranquility we emerged back on the river and transported to our next destination we picked up our bicycles and rode round cycle paths following our guide we ended up at a local house where we were shown round the extensive gardens full of home grown fruit which we had many samples of with our jasmine tea the owner of the house even sang us a traditional love song it was back on the bikes and on to our next house where we were given an extensive lunch with time to chill out in the garden before cycling back to pick up the boat for the return leg to ho chi Minh city. You could hire a car yourself and get to the delta but being chauffered there was definitely the best option for driving in ho chi Minh makes driving in London a drive in a village as I said at the start Thuy made the trip even better for us so if you want a good day out n sample some amazing things both good and bad I recommend this trip highly.
