Mount Wellington and Mona Day Trip from Hobart

1 day
Full Day
About this activity
Experience two of Hobart’s not-to-be-missed attractions: Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art and Hobart’s backdrop, kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
We start by heading to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington to enjoy stunning views over Hobart and Southern Tasmania. From the summit we offer the spectacular Organ Pipes walk for the adventurous, or some shorter walking options to explore the mountain for those looking for a more relaxed morning. Coming down from the mountain there is some free time for lunch on Hobart’s waterfront before transferring to Mona museum. Described by its creator as a ‘subversive adult Disneyland’ Mona is Tasmania’s most visited tourist attraction and offers visitors a unique and memorable experience.
Starts: Hobart 7.30am
Finishes: Hobart 5.30pm

Guide was wonderful and always ready to answer the difficult questions asked. Although there was only four of us she divided her time equally as was always ready to assist.

We were lucky enough to get to the top of Mount Wellington, what an experience! There is a break between going to Mount Wellington and Mona however it provides the opportunity for lunch. Mona is a different experience even for those who have no love of art. Totally worth doing!

Tour guide was very knowledagble and engaging! Nice view up from the mountain and we got to stop at a few scenic viewpoints on the way down. Enjoyable tour on a whole!

This was my least favorite tour of the three that I did while in Tasmania recently. Although we had a guide for the first half of the day it felt more like we were just being taxied around. He drove us up to the top of Mt wellington but didn't get out of the van while we were up there. He joined us on the hike, but kept to the caboose when I had hoped he might point out wildlife or interesting plants. Upon dropping us off at the waterfront and giving us our ferry and museum admission tickets we found out he was splitting from us and going on to lead a different tour for the rest of the day- we were left to do as we pleased. This was disappointing because it was less of a tour than I hoped it would be. Still very useful to get up and down Mt Wellington, but felt a little duped. The tour listing here and the voucher are sparse, because the tour is as well.
