About this activity
Your day begins with an 8am pickup from your Hoi An hotel by historic jeep. Depart from Hoi An and set out north along the coast, enjoying a glimpse of local life as you pass through through rural villages and hamlets.
Along the way, stop to admire the ancient Cham Temple and learn about the temple's unique history, dating back over 1,000 years. Then, visit Hilltop 55, an important war site that was heavily contested during the Indochina wars and the Vietnam war. After taking in the views from the top, continue to Danang, the fastest growing city in Vietnam. Enjoy the contrasting scenes as you go: from traditional villages to modern skyscrapers.
The next stop is Son Tra, where a drive to the top of the 2,100-foot (642-meter) Monkey Mountain affords spectacular views across the peninsula, as well as the chance to spot some wild monkeys. There's also time to stop at a helipad that was used by the Americans in the Vietnam war.
After breaking for lunch we continue driving around Monkey Mountain. Stop at the Linh Ung Pagoda, famous for its beautiful 220-foot (67-meter) statue of the Goddess of Mercy, and enjoy plenty of stops for photos.
Continuing toward the Marble Mountains, stop briefly at a small fishing village to enjoy the coracle and other fishing boats, and watch the fishermen go about their trade. Then climb up through the Marble Mountains as your guide explains how the five peaks are named after five elements: metal, fire, wood, earth and water. They are home to numerous tunnels, pagodas, caves and grottoes, and you'll have chance to walk the stone stairs to the top of Thuy Son (Water Mountain) for a panoramic view over the surrounding countryside.
Finally, hop back in the jeep for the return journey to Hoi An, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 4pm.
