Chinese New Year Parade Plus Hong Kong City Overview

1 day
About this activity

Your tour guide will collect you from your designated hotel between 12:10pm and 12:45pm – please see 'Itinerary' for details of hotels where pickup is offered. Lunch is not included, so you may want to eat before you leave.

You'll start your New Year festivities by riding the historic Peak Tram to the summit of Victoria Peak, where Sky Terrace 428 offers panoramic views across Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour 1404 feet (428 meters) above sea level. In operation for more than 125 years, this classic Hong Kong experience races 1223 feet (373 meters) past skyscrapers at such a steep angle that it seems the buildings themselves are leaning.

From here, it's about half an hour's drive to Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, where you can soak up the atmosphere of a traditional Cantonese fishing village on a quiet bay, and choose to ride a sampan (own expense).

From here it's 30 minutes or so to the Tse Sui Luen Jewellery Factory, a famous Hong Kong brand that's been recognized with the Outstanding QTS Merchant Award by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. From hand-cut diamonds to hand-crafted jewelry, you'll get the chance to watch fine pieces being made and maybe choose a bijou or two to take home.

Savor a light Chinese dinner (please note: vegetarian options are not offered) with one free soft drink before you take your reserved seats for the day's main attraction, Hong Kong's Chinese New Year Parade. Watch as dozens of floats, thousands of local and overseas performers, acrobats, dancers, clowns, and a myriad spectators welcome in the Lunar New Year with a festive energy that's unique to Hong Kong.

The parade formally runs from 8pm until 9:30pm, but there's plenty to see before the parade begins. Once the parade ends, your guide will bid you farewell at the parade ground: due to post-parade congestion, it's easier to make your way back to your hotel on foot or by public transport than attempt to ride the coach.
