About this activity
What is Hong Kong beyond the glittering skyscrapers, shopping malls and miles of glowing neon signs open-fronted shops? This walking tour through Old Hong Kong begins at 1:30pm with your friendly tour guide meeting you at your hotel.

Beginning at the Mei Ho House of the Shek Kip Mei Public Housing Estate, this is the oldest public housing complex in Hong Kong. Only Mei Ho House was chosen to be preserved as a Grade II Historic building and was transformed to a Youth Hostel in 2013. Next, you will experience the Jockey Club Creative Arts Center, housed in an award winning architectural conversion from the former Shek Kip Mei Factory Estate building. There are nearly 140 artists and art organizations pursing their works in a wide array of art forms, mainly in visual arts, performing arts and applied arts.

After the Jockey Club, you will have time for a tea break. This is the perfect time to relax a while at a cozy and tuck away heaven tea house: “The Heritage Tea House” is a hidden gem, a sophisticated tea house located at a quiet corner of JCCAC building. You may pick your own favorite Chinese tea, serving together with a tasting portion of dim sum snacks (touch of the heart) that are made fresh daily.

Moving on, the tour will visit Shum Shui Po, literally “Deep Water Pier” in Cantonese. After a time at the pier, the next feature of the tour is the Golden Shopping Center, very well known for the number of video game stores it contains, wide choices of gaming systems, software and accessories. Then on to Apliu Street Market, known as “Man’s market.” Vendors in this open air Market sell a wide variety of electronic products at reasonable prices and with plenty of open stalls, Apliu Street has something for everyone. The Fook Wing Street Market features many toy stores selling brand-name goods at half the price of those at department stores, as well as no-name toys at half that again. Cheung Sha Wan Road Fashion Street is the place to go if you are looking for brand-names at discounted rates.

At the end of the tour around 5;30pm, your tour guide will accompany you back to your hotel. You are also welcome to stay behind and explore all these markets on your own.
