2-Day Phong Nha-Ke Bang Cave Adventure from Hue

Itinerary

Day 1: Hue – DMZ – Vinh Moc tunnels – Phong Nha Town (L)

Stop At: Phong Nha Caves, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park 510000 Vietnam
You will be picked up by your guide in the morning then head straight to the buffer zone of the national park. We reach a quiet town and board a small motor boat to the Phong Nha cave. It takes about 20 minutes on the river to reach the spot, pristine and beautiful. We turn off the boat’s engine when entering the cave. You’ll also have the chance to get off the boat and stroll around. We then cruise back to another pier and drive further toward the national park on a peaceful countryside road to Son Trach village.

After lunch, we will get an introduction of the farming practices in this region. Depending on the time of the year, we will have a chance to discover the different crops and participate in some agricultural activities.

Later on we reach a beautiful place where a river offers nice cascades and natural pools. We walk along and over the river on small bamboo paths, swim and enjoy the cascades. We then get back to the homestay, where you can give a hand in dinner preparation.

Vinh Moc (Vĩnh Mốc) is a tunnel complex in Quảng Trị, Vietnam. During the Vietnam War it was strategically located on the border of North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The tunnels were built to shelter people from the intense bombing of Son Trung and Son Ha communes in Vinh Linh county of Quảng Trị Province in the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone.

Day 2: Phong Nha National Park (L)

Our car and tour guide will pick you up in Dong Hoi or Hotel in Phong Nha, you will explore the most impressive Phong Nha caves (50 km about the city, 45 minutes driving). After 25 minutes on boat, visitors will arrive at Phong Nha cave, take a couple of hours to see the cave. This cave is called water cave, it is famous for its rock formation which has been given names such as the “Lion”, the “Fairy Caves”, the “Royal Court”, and the “Buddha”.

In the afternoon : Visit Dark cave, Dark cave is really amazing where you can experience many adventure activities. The cave is called the dark cave because it is made of mostly basalt in addition to limestone. The basalt is a black hard rock, giving it its dark name. Basalt and limestone surrounding you, you squished through the passage using only your headlamps.

By the time we got through the passage, you are covered in mud and ready for another swim. This time you can go further into the cave, where the width was probably 100 m and the depth is deeper than anyone could touch. As you swim, you have to duck under huge stalagmites and balance between limestone columns to get to the next big opening.

On the way back, everyone can turn off their flashlights during the long swim stretch and you can swim in darkness. It is surreal. Probably the coolest thing you’ll ever do.

Back to Hue in the late afternoon
