The ancient town of Hue has had a turbulent and rich history: once it was an imperial city, later on, under the Nguyen dynasty, which ruled from 1802 to 1945, it became the country's capital. Nowadays, Hue is one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Vietnam. Straddling the Perfume River, this mysterious, somber city is a historian's dream come true, with numerous 19th century ruins, royal tombs and an excellent museum. Its historical part was declared a World Heritage site in 1993 by UNESCO.

Early in the morning and ready guide you through the wonders of Hue, our English-speaking guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Da Nang / Hoi An (conditions apply) and drive you to the embarkation point for our cruise over the Perfume River. The scenic drive with ample local examples of how life moves on central Vietnam before we reach Hue and where our day tour really begins.

A short boat cruise on the beautiful and romantic Perfume River will take you to the legendary Thien Mu Pagoda, which is not only a landmark, but also one of the oldest ancient architectural structures for religious worship in Hue. Thien Mu Pagoda (namely Heaven Fairy Lady Pagoda), also known as Linh Mu Pagoda, is one of the most fascinating and ancient pagoda in Hue city. It is situated on Ha Khe hill, on the north bank of the Perfume River, 5 kilometers from Hue city and was built in 1601.

We continue and admire on the southern bank of the river, the peaceful and impressive sepulchers of Emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. The tombs will reveal to you some secrets about their dwellers, the Nguyen kings. Tu Duc's tomb is located in a narrow valley in Duong Xuan Thuong village. It is one of the most beautiful works of royal architecture of the Nguyen dynasty. This is followed by the tomb of Khai Dinh, 10 km outside of Hue. The construction of the tomb started on 1920 and lasted for 11 years. The architecture of this tomb is the most criticized of all the tombs of the Nguyen dynasty (1802 – 1945). The structure of the tomb is of concrete elements with cement, a mixture of Vietnamese and Western concepts.

Having lunch in a local restaurant followed by afternoon visits to the local handicraft street. Those interested will be thrilled to find out how the famous “non la” (conical hats) and incense sticks are produced. Finally, wander around the central Dong Ba market and have fun discovering many exotic ingredients, food and souvenirs.

The Imperial City of Hue was the capital of Vietnam during the reign of the Nguyen dynasty, the last dynasty in Vietnam. Even today, the Vietnamese regard Hue with awe and respect. After this day, you will definitely share the same as we bring you back to the hotel for a full day touring through Hue.

Return transfers for this excursion apply only / are inclusive for customers staying in and nearby Hoi An Old Town and inside Da Nang City centre. Transfers outside these areas, including any accommodation along any of the Da Nang or Hoi An beaches, harbour and the Da Nang International Airport are excluded. Supplements apply for customers who want to join this excursion outside one of these regions.

Please ensure that you bring sunglasses, a hat /cap and sunblock with a high SPF factor when traveling with us on this tour – even when it is cloudy, the sunrays still have an immense power.
It is the responsibility of the customer to provide us with the correct hotel information, should pick-up and drop-off services be included in the package. Any changes in accommodation outside 48 hours will be handled accordingly: changes within 48 hours may be on request.
In the event of no-show or change of accommodation without prior consent and confirmation from us within 48 hours may result in the applicable cancellation charges as outlined in the terms and conditions.
