You will be picked up from your hotel in the evening and driven to the historic Golconda Fort that sits on top of a hill just outside Hyderabad.
The fort served as the capital of several dynasties - the Kakatiya dynasty between the 12th and 13th century, the Bahmani dynasty followed by the Qutub Shahi dynasty in the 16th and 17th century. The fort remained impregnable throughout its history except when it was conquered by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1686 after a nine-month siege. Even then, it was conquered due a traitor who opened the main gate to the enemy.
The fort is an architectural marvel and is also famous for its acoustic effects. A hand clap at a certain point near the entrance gate is audible right up to the highest pavilion of the fort.
The Sound and Light Show is a great way to learn about the history of this fort. The whole fort comes alive with the spectacular display of laser lights and the commentary that talks of the many dynasties that ruled over this fort. The show lasts for over an hour and features the voice of the Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan and music by well known Indian performers.
After the show, enjoy dinner (beverage excluded) at a local restaurant. After dinner you will be dropped back at your hotel.
