Designated by the BBC among the "world's seven theatres that take your breath away", the edifice of the National Theatre (1896) is a Neoclassical masterpiece. The pediment shows in alto-relief mythological characters in full motion – Calliope, Hercules and Dionysus, as well as the Greek fathers of tragedy (Sophocles) and of comedy (Aristophanes).

The Palace of Justice and Administration was rebuilt between 1906 and 1925 on the ruins of the medieval Princely Court (1434) and of the princely Palace (1806). This was the seat of the Moldavian Principality for about 300 years. It is the city’s symbol and it now hosts 4 impressive museums and a clock tower that plays the Union song at every hour sharp.
