About this activity
Step inside Innsbruck’s Nordkette cable car with your gondola ticket, and then travel up into the majestic Nordkette Mountains for your evening dinner. Ascending to an altitude of about 6,250 feet (1,905 meters), the cable car lends fairy-tale vistas, and as Innsbruck slips from your view, the snow-capped mountains of Nordkette take center stage.

After roughly 30 minutes in the gondola, you’ll arrive at the top station. Then, hop off and head inside the restaurant right outside – Alpenlounge Seegrube – where your gourmet mountain meal awaits. Sit down at your own private candlelit table with your pre-dinner drink, and soak up the magnificent panorama of Innsbruck lying at the foot of the mountain range.

The restaurant’s menu changes according to seasonality, but the use of local ingredients cooked according to traditional Austrian recipes is a theme that prevails. See the sample menu below.

At the end of your meal, why not stay for a drink in the restaurant’s bar (own expense)? However long you stay is up to you; the last cable car down to Innsbruck itself is at 7:15pm, but cable cars run back to the Hungerburg (mid-station) every half hour until half past midnight, meaning you can stay to swoon at the glittering nighttime views over Innsbruck after your meal. From the Hungerburg station, you can then catch a shuttle transfer or a taxi (own expense) back to Innsbruck center.

Sample Menu:
  • Asparagus salad with tomatoes, cucumber and freshly baked garlic bread
  • Bear’s Garlic Soup (no bears, just a classic Bavarian soup of garlic, potatoes, wine and bacon)
  • Fried medallions of pork with a thyme jus (sauce) and gratin of potatoes
  • Strawberries with vanilla ice cream and pumpkin-seed oil dressing
