Day 1: The journey from Inverness to Orkney

Stop At: Loch Fleet, Dornock, Annan Scotland
Our first stop of the day is Loch Fleet. We pause here for pictures of the local wildlife; seals and birds.

Stop At: Golspie Inn, Old Bank Rd, Golspie KW10 6RS, UK
We spend a short while in the small village of Golspie for refreshments
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Carn Liath, Brora KW9 6NL, UK
We spend some time at Cairn Liath, an iron age broch on the eastern shore of the Scottish Highlands
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: River Helmsdale, Helmsdale Scotland
After Cairn Liath, we pause for photos at the Helmsdale Clearance
Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Pentland Ferries, Pier Road St Margaret's Hope, Gills KW17 2SW Scotland
We reach Gills Bay, where we take the ferry over to the Orkney Islands
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: The Italian Chapel, Lamb Holm, St. Mary's KW17 2RT Scotland
We stop at the Italian Chapel, and time permitting we have the option to explore the interior of the wonderful building.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Kirkwall VisitScotland iCentre, West Castle Street, Kirkwall KW15 1GU Scotland
We arrive in Kirkwall, capital of the Orkneys, where we check in to our accommodation.

Day 2: A full day exploring Orkney

Stop At: Standing Stones of Stenness, Stenness Scotland
We stop for photos of the magnificent Stones of Stenness
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Ring of Brodgar, You do not need to book to get into this attraction. There is free access at all times., Stromness Scotland
We visit the Ring of Brodgar, a neolithic stone formation in Stromness.
Duration: 25 minutes

Stop At: Maeshowe, Ireland Rd, Stenness KW16 3LB Scotland
We stop at Maeshowe, an underground chambered cairn where you will have time to explore the passages and chambers.
Duration: 1 hour 25 minutes

Stop At: Skara Brae B9056, Stromness KW16 3LR Scotland
Skara Brae is Europe’s best-preserved Neolithic village, built even before the pyramids of Egypt. You can explore the village and get a glimpse into what life was like for the inhabitants 5000 years ago.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Kirkwall VisitScotland iCentre, West Castle Street, Kirkwall KW15 1GU Scotland
We return to Kirkwall and check in to our accommodation for the evening.

Day 3: The return trip to Inverness

Stop At: Pentland Ferries, Pier Road St Margaret's Hope, Gills KW17 2SW Scotland
We travel from St Margaret's Hope to Gills Bay, back to mainland Scotland.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: John O' Groats, Airor KW1 4YR Scotland
We follow the coastline to John O’Groats; Scotland’s most northerly point on the mainland. Spend time here exploring the coastline and take your iconic picture next to its famous signpost. A range of wildlife can usually be seen here such as Atlantic puffins, seals, a variety of birds and possibly even an orca!

Stop At: Dunbeath Castle Gardens, Dunbeath Scotland
We pause for photos at Dunbeath Castle Gardens

Can’t say enough about the beauty and wonders of Orkney. From the world heritage sites to the beaches and wildlife, there is something for everyone. Our Timberbush tour guide, Marita, was enthusiastic and flexible, accommodating our group’s needs and interests.
