About this activity
Make your own way to Clansman Harbour to begin your tour. Located less than 10 miles southwest of Inverness, the harbor is just a short drive from the city center and is set on the north shore of what is perhaps the world’s most mysterious stretch of water.

Nestled in between rambling hills and the still waters of Loch Ness, Clansman Harbour’s quaint dock area ideally complements the area’s unspoiled natural beauty. On arrival, spend a few moments capturing the incredible scenery with your camera, before heading for your cruise boat.

Once onboard your comfortable boat, take a seat inside or on the open-air deck and relax as you slip away from the dock. Absorb the breathtaking natural vistas of the loch and the surrounding hills as you glide and stay on the lookout for a glimpse of the area’s most famous resident, Nessie, the fabled Loch Ness Monster!

After a leisurely 30 minutes’ cruise on Loch Ness, disembark your boat at the romantic ruins of Urquhart Castle. Here, enjoy an hour of free time to spend at your leisure. Perhaps explore the ruins of the castle that, in its 500 years as a medieval stronghold, has a particularly dark history. Learn about King Edward I’s invasion in the 13th century, its importance during the Scots’ struggle for independence in the 14th century and the raids from MacDonald Lord of the Isles during the 15th and 16th centuries.

After exploring the castle ruins, return to your boat to enjoy a scenic cruise back to Clansman Harbour where your tour concludes.

Definitely bring midge spray and go early. The parking lot is tiny and there's a ton of very large buses taking up most of the space. There's a great souvenir shop downstairs that's fun to cruise around in and a lochness ride outside to take your pictures in front of. Walk under ground to the boat launch and enjoy the view from there. Once on the boat you'll notice the water is black, very cool. Bug spray now! Once on the island go from one end to the other and have fun.

We used viator to book this cruise during a recent trip to Scotland and all in all I'm happy that we did the Loch Ness Cruise because i feel it's one of those When in Rome experiences however the cruise itself is kind of hokey- the audio was all prerecorded and played over a loudspeaker. The castle itself was very pictueresque however not all that terribly informative. All-in-all I'm happy we did this however I wouldn't strongly recommend this to anyone else. Also if you're debating between Loch Ness or anothe destination in Scotland i'd probably pick the other option.

The cruise was ok. They herded lots of people on the boat and drove slowly to the castle. Dropped us off for one hour and then came back for us. Glad it didn't cost much as it was nothing special.
