About this activity
The Whisky Bus departs from Inverness at 8.45am, where we board a well-appointed coach with air conditioning, onboard WC and PA system. Accompanied by an experienced local driver, and separate knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide, we will embark on a 10-hour whisky-fuelled adventure to the following Highland and Speyside whisky establishments;
1. Tomatin Distillery
Our first stop is at Tomatin Distillery, where whisky production is thought to have been a way of life since as far back as the fifteenth century. Here you will be taken on an distillery tour, which will give you a great foundation for the day ahead. After the tour you will be encouraged to “ experience the softer side of the Highlands” with tutored tastings of three specially selected drams.
2. Glenlivet Distillery
Our next stop is Glenlivet Distillery, where you will experience a tutored tasting of three drams in one of their most exclusive tasting rooms. Following this, you will have some time to browse the exhibition, where you can find out more about the irrepressible spirit of The Glenlivet. You may also wish to browse the shop or try some whisky cake in The Old Maltings Coffee Shop.
3. Glenfarclas Distillery
Our next stop is Glenfarclas Distillery, one of the few family-owned distilleries in Scotland, and a favourite of our customers due to its relaxed ambience and unique history. Here we will hear a bit about the distillery, whilst enjoying a dram in the unique surroundings of their bonded warehouse. After that we will head inside, where you will enjoy a second tasting of this traditional Speyside malt in the luxurious surroundings of The Ship’s Room.
4. Speyside Cooperage
At the Speyside Cooperage, the only working cooperage in Scotland, highly skilled coopers are still using traditional skills to restore and repair casks. Here we will be treated to a 4D audio-visual presentation, before heading to the viewing gallery to admire the coopers at work. You can even try your hand at making a mini-cask too!
5. Aberlour Distillery
Last but not least is Aberlour Distillery, where we are guaranteed a warm welcome from their experienced and enthusiastic team. Situated in the pretty town of the same name, bang in the middle of Speyside, we end our whisky extravaganza on a high with a complimentary taste in the delightful setting of one of their dramming rooms. You will then have time to browse their compact yet tempting shop.
As the journey through Speyside is a picturesque one, we will make a couple of scenic photo stops on the homeward journey; these include Ballindalloch Castle and the 18th Century packhorse bridge in Carrbridge. Upon your return to Inverness, there are many excellent pubs within a few minutes’ walk of the bus stop, so you may well find that some of your fellow travelers will join you to toast a final "uisge beatha"!
