Pilpintuwasi is a wildlife rescue and temporary custody center located on 17 hectares of land in the village of Padre Cocha, 20 minutes outside of Iquitos. The founder dreamt of breeding one of the world’s most beautiful creatures — butterflies. She started Pilpintuwasi, where one can observe the complete life-cycle of butterflies.
Aside from butterflies, there are many species to be seen - from monkeys to coatis, macaws, pygmy marmosets, an ocelot, a jaguar and more.
This non-profit organization which works alongside the ecological police to protect animals affected by the poaching and trafficking industry - a big problem in Iquitos.
