About this activity
Visitors to Istanbul should not miss to make a Bosphorus cruise on the 32 km (20-mile) long strait which joins the Sea of Marmara to the south with the Black Sea to the north of Istanbul.

Its English name "Bosporus" comes from mythology. Zeus had an affair with a beautiful woman named lo. When Hera, his wife, discovered his infidelity, she turned Io into a cow and created a horsefly to sting her on the rump. lo jumped clear across the strait.

What you see on the Cruise:

Topkapi Palace, Europe

You motor out of the Golden Horn past Topkapı Palace, covering the hill at the tip of Saray Burnu (Palace Point).

Maiden's Tower, mid Bosphorus

A 12th-century Byzantine fortress occupied the tiny islet where the 18th-century Kız Kulesi (also called Leander's Tower) now stands. A tower here may have served as a customs post. Featured in the James Bond movie From Russia With Love, the tower now houses a restaurant.

Üsküdar, Asia

The largest Asian district, directly across the Bosphorus.

Dolmabahce Palace, Europe

The façade of this great Ottoman palace (1853) is nearly a quarter of a mile (400 meters) long.

Cıragan Palace, Europe

Finished in 1874, the marble palace of Ciragan (CHEE-rah-AHN) has a tragic history.

Yıldız Park & Palace, Europe

The swath of green forest behind Ciragan is Yıldız ("Star") Park.

Ortaköy & Mecidiye Mosque, Europe

You've probably seen photos of the Mecidiye Mosque (1854).

Bosphorus Bridge (connecting Europe and Asia)

Ever since the Persian emperor Darius built his bridge of boats acoss the Bosphorus in 490 BC, rulers of Istanbul have dreamt of a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Beylerbeyi Palace, Asia

2.5 km (1.5 miles) northeast of Üsküdar, is a "small" Istanbul summer palace overlooking the Bosphorus from its Asian shore

Northern Bosphorus

Beyond the Bosphorus Bridge there's plenty more to see: The village of Cengelköy, Kuleli Naval Academy, Arnavutköy with its photogenic Ottoman yalıs (wooden Bosphorus seaside mansions), Rumeli Hisarı (the mighty Fortress of Europe), the town of Bebek with its pretty bay, and Bosphorus University.

This very same tour costs 15 Turkish Lira about 2-3 if you buy it directly from the harbour office. Even the people in charge of the boat wondered how we could pay that much on Viator. So do not buy it online. Go to any harbour in Instanbul and you will find a nice cruise But not on Sundays! Its very crowded on Sundays. The tour is nice and worth it. Stay on the upper level and on the left side of the boat. You should know that they will try to trick you into buying tea, orange juice or snacks, which appeareantly are free, and then charge you really overpriced sumes of money. So its better to not buy any drinks on the deck. How to find the ticket office: It you type in google maps anything from the voucher, it will get very confusing. Best option: take the tram to Kabatas station the tram line is also called Kabatas and when you get off, go in the direction of the water youll see it, more exactly on the side on which you get off. You will also see that Gas Station they mention. Its the only gas station in Kabatas, so you can ask the locals. Also, at some point of the cruise you will hear from the speakers something like Thank you for letting us entertain you and have a great evening. This is not the end! Hearing that message, all passengers got off the boat it has many stops, but there was more of the trip. So do not get off if you havent seen all the objectives written in the cruise description here, in Viator. Conclusion: Its worth it, but only if you buy it directly from the harbour.

Excellent experience! I was very worried about ambiguous directions provided but it was actually very easy to find. If you take the tram to last station of Kabatas and walk towards the gas station, you will see a ticket kiosk redeeming the voucher. The boat was a bit dirty, but spacious, has a bathroom and offers some refreshments and snacks. Second floor is an open space, so you could sit, walk around, take pictures, etc. The tour lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is no guide on this boat, but there is a pre-recording played in Turkish and English that announces major sites the boat is passing. It takes you through almost entire Bosphorus, so you can see glimpses of Marmara Sea on one end and Black Sea on the other. I only wish it came closer to the Maiden Tower Kiz Kulesi but it is still seen in the distance.

We never made on the boat. Directions were confusing. Time of departure shouldn't be listed for the whole year and be specific for the month that voucher was paid for

Well, where do I start. How about the convoluted instructions on how to find this tour! Kabatas area, behind the gas station.. What?! Anyway, 8 taxi ride, to the Kabatas docks which are now closed for construction and no boats leave rom there! When finally found a ticket office, it was for the Hop On-Hop Off boat, that claimed they didn't know anything about my certificate, and their last boat had already left. Since it was getting late, and as a 60 year old woman traveling alone, and leaving the next morning, I decided to drown my frustration back at my hotel, and call this 'tour' a bust! 8 taxi ride back.
