About this activity
During the early and late seasons, we like to pause and enjoy the beauty of the Snake River Canyon. This trip is the classic Snake River trip with a stop for lunch at Mad River's riverside camp half-way through your trip. There's no better way to relax than to slow it all down on a river trip. Bring a book, play some games with the kids and enjoy a few hours on the river.

This trip includes more time on the river for interpretive opportunities and a relaxing time at our riverside camp. Play some outdoor games, roast some marshmallows, catch a few chapters of a good book - all while you wait for your dutch oven lunch, hot off the coals. Slow it down, get away from it all and enjoy the river.

People come from all over the world to experience our newly designated "Wild and Scenic" river. Join us on the 8-Mile Whitewater in the Snake River Canyon and you'll see why the Snake River is such an unforgettable place. We welcome everyone from first timers to return rafters on this trip. So whether you're a newcomer, it's been 30 years, or you're a seasoned river rat, come early and experience the Snake River Canyon.

This trip launches from West Table Boat Ramp in the Snake River Canyon and winds its way south toward Alpine, WY. You'll travel 8 river miles from start to finish.

There are about 8 sets of rapids, ranging from class I and II to class III. Various river features encountered along the way include Lunchcounter and Big Kahuna rapids, Million Dollar Fishing Hole, Gauging Straights and Bailing Straights. You'll pause just after the gauging straights for lunch at Mad River's exclusive riverside camp at Blind Canyon, overlooking the two largest rapids in the canyon.

At the end of your meal, you will hit the water once again to finish out your whitewater experience with the biggest rapids in the canyon up first. Your guides will inform you on the history of the area as well as the local flora and fauna.

The Snake River Canyon is rich in geological history and your guide will point out some of the features that make this canyon unique. You might see river otters, osprey and bald eagles on your trip. The lucky few might even catch a glimpse of a mountain goat, a mule deer, an elk or even a grizzly or black bear.

BOAT TYPE:

This trip features our small raft. This raft is an AIRE inflatable, self-bailing, 15'6" raft. This is an 8 man raft. There are 6 paddling positions and 2 non-paddling positions in this raft.
