Learn to Cook Seasonal North Indian Vegetarian Food in a Local Home

About this activity
Meet Payal at her home and then drive to the local market for a tour of the spice shops. Here you will learn about basic Indian Ingredients and local, seasonal produce. As you explore you’ll pick up a few ingredients for your cooking lesson.

Payal's kitchen is a spacious, professional space where you will have plenty of room to spread out during your hands-on cooking lesson. Payal and her staff will teach you to prepare 5-6 typical North Indian/Rajasthani dishes including a rice dish, handmade breads like chapatis or batti, and a dessert. Additional dishes for your meal will be prepared in advance. You can expect the cooking lesson and meal to last about 2 to 3 hours.

Once the meal is ready you might sample include daal (lentils), paneer masala or koftas in sauce, traditional gatta curry (chickpea flour dumplings in a yogurt-based sauce), and seasonal green vegetables. The meal is served with a rice dish and fresh, hot handmade wheat chapatis (breads) such as missi roti, or bejad ki roti which is made with Rajasthani grains and spices. Your meal will end with a sweet dessert such as rasgulla (cheese and semolina balls in sweet syrup), rasmalai (creamy dumplings simmered in milk with spices and nuts), halwa (semolina pudding) or traditional churma (wheat flour cooked with ghee and sugar).

Note that Payal runs a homestay out of her house so while other guests might be present during your visit, your cooking lesson and meal will be private.

In addition, please note, this experience is not a professional cooking class or tour, rather it is meant to be a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
