Ice Explorer Glacier Tour and Glacier Skywalk

About this activity
Itinerary

No trip to Jasper is complete without a visit to the famed Columbia Icefield, the largest ice field in the Canadian Rockies. Jaw-dropping views of towering mountains surround a landscape of broken rocks and ice and pure white snow as far as the eye can see. The Athabasca Glacier, located in the northwest corner of Banff National Park, is one of the most imposing and dramatic parts of the massive ice sheet and is often only accessible through the help of specialized winter vehicles.

Your glacier adventure departs from the Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 N), approximately 175 km (110 mi) from Banff, widely recognized as one of the most scenic mountain drives in the Canadian Rockies. Tours depart every 15-30 minutes and your ticket is valid at any point for the day you have selected.

From the Discovery Centre, you will board a specialized Ice Explorer, a massive vehicle with gigantic wheels designed to let you travel safely along the often frozen roadway. Along the way, your driver will provide commentary about glaciers, their impact upon the local ecosystem, and the environmental changes rapidly transforming these massive scenic wonders. Once you reach the Athabasca Glacier, you will have the opportunity to hop out and walk along the glacier. Experience the place for yourself and even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt.

After you will return back to the Discovery Center before heading over to the Glacier Skywalk, where you will walk along the glass bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. After stopping to appreciate the incredible view and capture a few photographs, it's back to the Discovery Center and a return to your vehicle.

Two part review: 1. Experience of the activity: Really good. The tour guides, the tour and glacier bus was really exceptional. Pursuit did a exceptional job putting this tour together. I will recommend it to anyone going to Banff or Jasper. 2. Viator: As a third party reselling - they did a terrible job in selling. After selling the tour ticket, they give you vouchers to redeem at the ticket counter. After reaching at the counter, pursuit folsk could not find my booking. After searching and missing my window, they finally gave up and decided to honor the vouchers anyways. They gave me a window later in the day to go on the bus. The lady at the counter said, this isn't the first time that this has happened with Viator. Summary: Go to pursuit directly and book your tour.

The Glacer Tour was great, the Skywalk was less. The monsterbusses were huge and the drivers verry informative and funny.

Fantastic! My husband and I loved it! Bring empty water bottles so you can fill up with some "cold" glacier water! Snow Treds for your shoes are a good idea. They sell them up there, but very pricey. Ice fields are slippery. Bring your camera.

BE AWARE!!!! If you are booking through Viator, the time you pick is NOT the time you will go!!!! we booked a 10:30 tour, and when we got there to our SURPRISE, that is not the time you get. After we drove for 3 hour to get there, we found out, we couldn't get on a tour until 3:15pm!!! Viator lets you book the tour, but they don't book the actual times!!! YOU have to do that when you arrive at the tour!! I suggest you book with them directly and NOT VIATOR!!! Completely misleading!!

No disappointment on the Glacier tour! 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Was cold and windy on the ice, but certainly tolerable for the 20 minute visit. Loved drinking the glacier water! Bring an empty water bottle. Definitely worth doing! Was less impressed with the skywalk, but it was nice enough -- SO crowded!!! Food we ordered in the discovery center for a fast lunch beforehand was not so great

We loved this tour. Imagine actually standing on a glacier! Our tour guide, Jordan, was super. Very friendly, and knowledgeable. We felt safe. Wear non- slip shoes, as it is slippery! The Skywalk was very well done also. Really glad we did this tour.
